"Mpofu and the Lion"

In the Sindebele language of the Matabele of Zimbabwe "Mpofu" is the name of the giant antelope of the bushveld, the Eland. The eland is a favourite prey of lions but here Mpofu turns the tables on the largest carnivore of Africa.

In reply to:

..... The lion crashed sideways into the bush and disappeared from view. Within moments, literally, the sun had set, and it was very dark indeed. .....

Mpofu,

Very nice ! What are the chances of this story also apperaing in Magnum magazine ?

And how big did that buff measure out it sure looks like a good old boy !

The Buff measured 42",the bosses were cracked and broken in places. He was a real old 'Daggaboy'.
Re Magnum, I have tried and failed to get hold a copy of theirs in the past.

Excellent trophies and quite a story. There must have been a pucker factor going on when you went looking for your lion.

Mpofu

I agree with Ann. The approach to the lion after the shot would have been very very exciting. Great trophies, the large bodied lion and the the wide old daga boy.

Enjoyed your story very much and I read it several times when I put it up.

And I think it is great that all it took was a single shot from your .375 for BOTH game animals.
