Hunting ban in Zambia?

What's the story? A total ban, or just a ban on hunting cats?

It is all about coruption. All hunting concessions and licences were cancelled. After an investigation new ones will be issued. It is not a ban because the goverment is against hunting.

I have been told that the main reason is the government (and increasingly national) animosity towards Zambias asian population. Just like the situation white Zimbabweans have been thru, the Zambian government is using their asian population as the "bad guy", in order to avoid having attention drawn to their own failings.

If I have understood correctly, the majority of Zambian concessions have been in asian (mainly Indian?) hands. So a ban is the perfect way to "stick it to them". The Chinese are in the Zambian dog house too, with quite a few of them being the victims of murder and other violent crimes recently.

Thanks Erik, I have only seen 2 short articles on this, one which explains the goverments stance and the other one was a greenie who accused South Africans of illigally flying Sable calf out of Zambia.

In the end we will get behind the whole truth. Africa is known to have cover ups for their actions.

I read the BBC on TV? claimed hunting was banned in total in Zambia.

I guess the antis and greenies never miss ab opportunity to lie and mislead people, even their own followers.

All concessions in the GMA ( game management areas) is still banned.

The only legal hunting in Zambia at present is on pvt land. Lets hope they sort out the corruption concerns soon and reissue concessions in time for next year. (Although everything here happens quite slowly) as mentioned, most concession were held by Indians and by all accounts a fair amount of palm greasing took place to secure these concessions, so looks like the change in government opened up the opportunity to put new people in the ZAWA (Zambia wildlife) so either they now want their cut, or they may genuinely want to award them openly and fairly.......time will tell.

Will try update the story when news becomes available.

Still no firm feedback about concessions in Zambia. I know there is one concession offering PG near the Bangwelu swamps that is hunting, but it is almost an NGO type operation that the government left alone. All others are still closed.
