In a rigorous search operation, the Uttarakhand forest department on Tuesday caught an elusive man-eater tiger who is believed to have killed seven people in the past six months. The overall operation that was carried for nearly half a year, became one of the longest such operations in the state’s history. A huge team of over 100 forest officials from 6 forest divisions were involved in the operation.

Cajn't watch the video fro some reason, says "Video Not Available"

Was wondering why they "caught it", instead of killing it. I suspect after 6 months in "jail" it will be declared rehabilitated & it will be released, just like the Criminals in USA and Canada.

Daryl:
A trap can be set and keeps working 24/7, with only occasional checking and rebaiting, whereas actual human pursuers would need to be paid, fed, organized in shifts, etc.
They would also need to be 'skilled' in the manner of Corbett so as not to add to the man-eater's tally! That requires training in tiger behaviour, stalking, marksmanship etc. and the up-keep of such training.

Also, although in this case it was actually trapped, I have noticed that Indians often use the word "caught" to mean "shot" with reference to a quarry animal that has been pursued for some time.

With the animal in the cage not being dead, just by the looks of the picture, caught mean caged, to be released later, to me.

No reason a maneaters captured couldn't be released in a zoo. Would be a sensation. Perhaps animal rightists could prove their love by getting in with it.

Yes, a thought. They could make friends.
