Removing the grip cap on a Ruger no.1 ?

I am about to remove the finish on my no.1 to put on an oil finish. However, I can't figure out how to remove the grip cap. Has anyone on the forum done this and could advise me how to proceed or if I should leave it in place?

Hi 338;
The brass colored disc in the center of the grip
cap is a cover for a #2 Phillips wood screw. The disc is
brass and pressed into the screw recess and usually very
hard to remove. Try freezing it with dry ice and tapping.
This has worked for me once. You can leave it in place as
Ruger finishes the wood under the cap. Good Luck

Thanks, this was helful ! I will try carefullly with ice or liquefied nitrogen, but it seems that maybe I should leave it in place.
