New drillings

Hello, If one wanted to buy a new working Drilling, nothing fancy just a basic drilling with detachable scope what would the ball park cost be? What companies make one that could be easily sent in for warranty work with out sending it out of the country?

J Mar Drillings
Sells new Krieghoff drillings. Both double shotgun and rifle and double rifle and shotgun. They appear to be between $6,000.00 and $10,000.00. He is based in New York for the sale and Krieghoff has a factory service center in Phili Pa.

In addition to Kriefhoff I'd add Merkel and Heym to that list. The most affordable I believe is Merkel at the moment, but they have gone up in the past few years.

Hi ES , coming from the country of drillings, I just wanted to remind You that Sauer is propably producing better drillings than all makers mentioned, at least they did. Maybe Heym can compete. I know several old hunters here that use Sauer drillings with Zeiss scopes that are 20 to 30 years in more or less permanent use and never made any problems. Accuracy is usually excellent, calibers up to 9,3x74R.So if You can find somebody with a Sauer drilling, just have a look at it and compare.

Alas...no more fine guns from Sauer. Sig saw to that.

Yeah...

But those OLD Sauers were some real nice guns. Just a few weeks ago I saw a real nice old pre-war Simson 12/12/9.74r. Really light and handled well, much better than most of the modern stuff thats out there, IMHO.

My wife and I both have Sauer 3000 drillings in 12x12x30-06.
These guns were made in the 1960's.
They are the same model as the Colt-Sauer Drillings, the Colts having a little different Americanized look.

Both of our guns are fitted with scopes in claw mounts.
They are plenty accurate.
With the scopes removed I like them better for wing shooting than my Browning 12 ga O/U.

You should be able to find one for around $3500 to $4500 US.

The most commom rifle bbl calibers are 30/06 and 243.

I had an old sauer in 16 x16 over 8/57 that I gave to a friend some time ago. I thought that a cape gun or over and under combo would fill the bill but while they are nice there is just something about the feel of a drilling with the side by side barrels. At some point I think that I will have to replace that old gun. Thanks for all the replies. Those sauer drilling sound just about perfect.

I presently own 4 Sauer combo guns and can't find fault with any of them. I've also owned 3 other Sauer drillings that were excellent guns...other people seemed to want them a bit too much, however ($$$$$$!).

Two of my present Sauers are early 1900's Charles Daly sidelock/sidecock, one is a two barrel cape gun 12/8X57JR & 12/12 set, and the last is a drilling like No2's. All are so different from the others, but they are the same in one respect...quality. I've owned many other makers' drillings, and many were of superior quality...Gbr. Merkel, Kettner marketed, Heym, Burghsmueler, Sempert & Kreighoff, and some others. Many shared the same make actions. The difference was in the execution.

I believe I've found my ultimate drilling recently, a Geyger in 16/16 & 9,3X74R and 20/20/243, both well scoped. The check has been sent and I'm getting excited. This one won't fall victim to a trade-of-a-lifetime or offer-I-can't-refuse.

I would sell some of my guns right now to close up my wounded check book...
