Leupold Vari-X vs. VX

Hello Folks,

Having several Leupold Vari-X II & III, and several VX III scopes, I know they are all great sights. The only real difference I see between the Vari-X and the VX scopes is the finger-adjustable turrets on the VX scopes. Does anyone here know the technical differences between the two lines of scopes?

Seems like I remember something about index matched lenses and new coatings, or coating process. I know there are alot of technological advances happening in the optics industry. Have you been to buy eyeglasses lately? Its like scope shopping! Nikon, Zeiss, Varilux, non glare coatings, several new lens materials that are getting thinner and thinner. They will be thin as saran wrap before long...LOL.

I thought that the Vari X 3 was the same quality as the new VX2 & that the new VX3 was a level up. I think that the old VariX 2 was not fully coated lens while the new VX 2 is fully coated lens. I find the new VX3 certainly very sharp & bright. All Leupold scopes that I have had have been good (fixed 4X, 1-4X, 2-7X, 2.5-8X & 3-9X - in grades 2 or 3).
