Here are some elk I photo'd on my place today. Taken from the front lawn. Sorry for the bad pix.

True enough.

4 wolves have been hammering this herd, chasing them and taking one every now and then. They come and go from my place here. This is a south facing aspect and melts off before many other fields so we have them alot this time of year.

Those are all whitetails.

I am not certain what spooked them. I didn't see anything. They settled down.

They are here in the spring and early summer and calve in my fields. Then they are off to the high country. Unfortunately they are not on my place during hunting sean!

By the looks of the snow around here, we won't see fields like that until mid the elnd of April, mid May. Supoosed to get more on Sunday then warm up just enough to make it slushy, then cold again. Last March we got another 4' of the stuff. I think I should get my favourite wife to retire and move with me to Idaho!

I'd get a lot more testing in, that's for sure. Hey Rod, any shacks on the back 40?

Having hunted dozens of animals on 4 continents, chasing the royal wapiti with a recurve & chasing the mighty elephant with a double rifle are, to me, the two greatest wilderness experiences!!

Then all you have to add is good health, a good woman, nice kids, a solid bank account, projetcs (not a job) and great food and wine...

Snow is down, but deep within walking distance.

The south face of my land causes it to burn off snow earlier than any other area for quite a ways around, and thus makes for the condition that attracts large herds very early.

I went for a skijaunt last night and was in snow varying from dirt to 3 inches to 4 feet or so. Snowshoed up thru the timber to the logging roads and then broke trail to the north side of the mountain and skiied around. Watched the sun go down and then came back in the dark.

Crescent moon guided me home.

The sunset before:

Wasn't that moon awesome last night! I walked out the back door to go to the shop and look up and was like ablittle kid with my mouth gapping open...I live in town, but Cut Bank Montana has more stars in it's sky than Hollywood...and I'd rather have these stars

I believe if I heard correctly, this is the last weekend where the moon and venus are so close to one another... until 2010...makes for some awesome photos..
