Nearly a ton ?

Big 16 - 18 foot crocs weigh a huge amount
as they seem to spread sideways !!!

Iīm surprised that gator only weighed 700 and something pounds when 13 foor long, maybe they are slimmer than African crocs. Nordmann, I have heard tell that African pic is a little bit of a set up. Whilst being bloody big the crowd were moved back and the photographer "used the angles". Donīt know how true this info is though, best

Definitely a big one. Would such a gator be a potential man eater?

That is a huge croc regardless of angles !

Their is part of a HUGE Croc skull on the wall of a Pub in the NT, it is Massive, probably the biggest Croc ever seen
up there. From memory, I think they worked out it was probably 21 feet or something.

I think the old rule of thumb was 7x the skull length. But have seen some big animals with small skulls and vice versa.

This will give you some insight into big crocodiles that have been recorded.

There is a statue of "Krys" in the L.E.W. Henry Park at Normanton, North Queensland, Australia.

The plaque reads:

"Krys the Savannah King is an accurate artist's impression of the largest recorded saltwater crocodile captured in the world.

Krys was shot on the MacArthur Bank, Norman River, down stream from Normanton in July 1957 by Krystina Pawlowski, one of the many crocodile shooters operating in the area at the time. The crocodile's name "Krys the Savannah King", reflects the feats of this lady.

Krys measured 28ft 4 ni (8.63m) and is the largest authenticated crocodile ever shot. Krystina's husband, Ron, estimated that it would have weighed over 2 tons. Ron took several photographs so that some comparison of the crocodile's real size would be made. These photographs were lost in the 1974 floods.

This replica at the L.E.W. Henry Park has been built to the dimensions listed in the Guiness Book of Records and was officially opened by Krystina Pawlowski on Saturday, 12th October,1996."

I have a picture of myself and my wife leaning up against the replica of Krys and his back comes up to my armpit and I'm 5'11".

Twobob,
been to the "Purple pub" myself & stocked up on some rather urgent "medicinal" supplies when fishing up that way, know exactly how you feel - especially when you see it up close!
For all you folks who think we're pulling your leg, Google "Purple pub Normanton Queensland" - Krys is just across the road!
I'm just over 6' tall, his jaws at the widest are big enough to swallow me whole & yes there are 'lizards' up there in the billabongs South of Normanton that go well past 18' mark regularly.
Run a spotlight over the water at night & watch for the red eyes, bet you lose count pretty quickly.
The graziers are losing cattle pretty regularly up there - & the Greenie reckon there a "threatened species"?
Could certainly get some trophy crocs up there........only if!
And no you don't sleep on the ground up there near water!
Cheers

"And no you don't sleep on the ground up there near water!"

A mate of mine got grabbed by a croc and they were quite
some way from the water - and I mean quite some distance.

It had followed the boat from the mouth of the estuary until it found it then walked up the bank and grabbed one of them while he was asleep.

His mate beat the croc off and the guy went to hospital.
Luckily it bit him round the waist so he only has two
rows of scars - and the head !

A 5mt croc is bloody big and I certainly don't enjoy being close to one that size let alone anything bigger

5m is a very big croc and most 5m crocs turn out to be around 4 when measured. Every croc signted seems to be 5m and if they start off at 3.5 or 4 they grow the extra meterage in a few days with every telling of the story.

I've been next to a big one a few times, feeding it.
It's near on 17 and a bit feet, probably a bit more by now.

I agree Claydog, although a pilot has seen a few huge one's
when flying over Arhnemland and big one's do stand out
from an aircraft.

I had a dog eaten by one that measured 4.3 when it was trapped 18 months later and it was big. There are plenty of big ones around and I have seen a few over 5m caught. Just always a bit dubious about estimations until they run a tape over them.

I spend time with people who have spent years with crocs,
including those who caught Sweetheart. I think they have
a pretty good idea of what is what, unlike some who as you
say, over estimate. Always a good laugh hearing stories
of what Sweetheart did !

Anyway, anything over 9 feet to me is dangerous and where
they are seen at 9 feet and less, you can bet there are
others that are bigger than 9 feet !!!

I had a look at the map the other day of Croc attacks in the NT, more than you think over the last 30 years.

A good friend of mines son was killed at Mary River a week or two ago. Have been told a few stories of sweetheart. They are a good laugh. Maybe not if you were the person involved though.

Was that the person who swam across the river ?

The catching part wasn't all funny part, it was what
he did to the boats and / or motors !!!
The book is a good read.

I read the book, it was funny. I know one of the parks guys who was involved. I would have shit if a croc grabbed the motor of my boat like that. Yes that was the guy who swam the Mary. Goes to show, he was a level headed sensible guy who did one stupid thing and paid in heavy coin.

Claydog, sorry to hear about that.

Did silly things in my youth too. Like wading out waist deep into rivers to un-snag lures. Probably in an area where salties were more scarce.
