Global Warming sucks
      #209657 - 31/05/12 02:50 PM

This past spring bear hunt on the Alaska peninsula was the coldest and snowiest I have seen in the past 33 years. Spring hunts are typically when all the birds are returning and singing and flowers are popping up all across the tundra. I love it

this year it snowed the first week of the hunt- which at least helped as the client wounded a bear and it took three days of tracking to catch it up in this pass where the snow was still over 30 feet deep.

By the time my friend Lon Paul and I were able to sort things out and kill it our feet were alot colder than the bears.

Ha ha, I find the same thing, the more global warming we have the cooler it seems to be ...

Amazing to a flat land hot country Aussie all that snow to hunt in ... 30 feet! And its a Sprint hunt!

Nice Bear, Phil. Bit of a chore to get that hide out. Don't you just love going after wounded game.
You're a good man for keeping with it. 3 days & that high up - MAN! Bit of a sun, or wind burn, too.

That is why I will never go on a bear hunt, 30 ft snow? That will be way to cold for me.

Still it is a nice bear with very nice photos.

Again that snow...Brrrrrr and I am not even there.

Phil good photos.

I have to pay it to you, top effort. Staying with a wounded bear for 3 days would take some effort, especial through thick snow. Hope your client appreciated your efforts.

First cool couple of days for a couple of weeks. Guess some idiots will claim it is global warming again ... instead of normal fluctuations.

Most days were over 31 C, and up to 44 C. A lot of nights were over 30 C too, at best mid to high 20's C. Northern SA got up to 47 C (at least forecasts, I did not see the actual results).

I would have loved a day visiting snow a few days ago. Last two nights were great, great to be cold again.

My wife was up on the roof yesterday, shoveling about 3' of snow off the overhang. It was running around -23. I did have interrupt my coffee with a friend to go outside and hold the ladder for her to come down - bit chilly it was, too, but no need to worry, I was OK.

I ended up clearing a couple feet of snow off the roof three weeks ago, in minus 32 weather. Not too fun.

Going to have to do it again soon, I'm thinking. Hopefully the temps stay up around a nice, balmy -20, instead of the usual January -40 :/

ATM we have been hit with day after day of extreme heat and dryness. Before global warming this was called a drought or a 'hot spell'.

Total fire bans were in force across Australia and the press are foaming at the mouth for a catastrophic fire to destroy something. A 20 acre grass fire currently gets national coverage.

Nice bear.

You guys in Ausyland- with the upsidedown weather - HA! If you think you're right side up, what's the temp at Christmas time? Gotta have snow for Santa's sled- (is my point).

Well, -19 this AM (that's about -2 for the US boys still on the old "English" system - heh, heh) - warming to -5C tonight, -5 (maybe 20F) tomorrow and supposed to be +5 for Tuesday - that would be about 40F I guess. What 'wonderul' weather we having today. Spend part of it shooting air rifle indoors - .22 for me - my 'bunny' rifle, but too cold and gloomy for snowshoes to be out and about. Maybe Tuesday if it's sunny.

Daryl,
The metric system is just a passing fad
Personally, I wish we could pick one system and stick with it, It kinda sucks when half of the bolts in your car are metric and the other half are english.

We had 43.6C (abt 111F) last week so went to the beach to improve the suntan. Some folk I know got 47.6C at Oodnadatta (worth a google). In 1960 they got 50C!

The Oodnadatta mob might have improved their sun tans too, with that heat!

I can't imagine being anywhere but in an air-conditioned basement in those temps. I melt at 27C. Yes - it gets too hot HERE in the summer time.

Daryl glad to hear you are OK I was a bit worried about you haveing to go out in that weather.

The problem with the temps we are having here is they are in shade temps. 44c in the shade is more than 60c in the sun. cany give actual temp as the thermometer only went to 60c. Had to throw it in a bucket of water before it burst its top.

Nice to have a Chinook now and then! Some people just don't appreciate the warm sun! Warm in Dawson Creek too - went up to +8 today according to my computer's listing - that's 46F. The kids will be wearing nothing but tee shirts - as usual, down to about -16 or so.

Here, there are quite a few out walking around at lunch time with no coats, boys and girls, but then, it's a balmy 0C to +1 but cloudy. I love an early spring - you can tell the girls from the boys. HA! just kidding - well, it's supposed to be even warmer tomorrow, then drop down to normal temps by the weekend, I expect.

I'd appreciate the warm sun more if it wasn't accompanied by skating rinks for roads, and minor flooding :P The still frozen ground makes run-off...interesting. But yeah, the warm is nice

The wolves are going to love it though, when it freezes again in a couple days. Nice thick crust for them to hunt on, but not strong enough to support the moose :/

Standard procedure around here, every year. The deer are up to their necks or backs and moose 1/2 way up their sides and a single wolf or two can kill either by eating on them as they try to get away, no chance.
