Cabela's Mauser ....
      #262125 - 12/03/15 12:27 PM

While at at the SE WI Cabelas, I came across the following Mauser, said to be in 8mm. It seems quite the mish-mash, with express, peep and a scope for sighting. Thoughts on origin?

Not a bad looking rifle. My guess is that it is a WWII bring back that has been drilled and tapped for the Lyman peep sight and the Williams side mount.
The receiver ring looks like it once had a claw mound dovetailed into it but has been removed.
Did you buy it?

Naw ... the price, ~$900 was too steep for what was offered. I wouldn't be able to leave it as is and would want to put more money into it to try and bring it back to original. Plus, the last thing I need is another "project rifles" - per my lovely wife LOL

What city is that Cabelas located in? My daughter lives in Wauwatosa.

It's the one north of Milwaukee, where 41/45 splits off.

Yeah I too wouldn't mind having it.
Looks like a Mauser type M.
Without seeing any markings it makes it difficult to tell if it is an original Mauser sporter or a smaller gunsmith version.
Either is good though.
I bought a Mannlicher Schoenauer 1903 that has suffered the same fate as to the claw mount and Williams scope mount.
I get to pick it up from my son in 4 weeks. Freaking eternity!

Maybe the grain but looks like a crack in the grip at the back of the tang?

I caller Cabela's about the rifle and learned: there is no serial number visible on the action, even with the Williams base removed; the trigger guard/double set triggers are clearly not original commercial Mauser; there is no manufacturer's name under the scope base; the price was negotiable down to $800 plus $25 shipping. Not too hard to pass up.

I would not touch a rifle that had the front receiver ring dovetailed.
There is also a significant crack in the rear tang area. It is not an Oberndorf.
