Factory Kynoch RN, DWM FMJ, 400gr Woodleigh Projectile, DWM 400gr RN, 404 Jeffery with a 400gr Woodleigh stuff into not very well. The same 6 factory crimp marks are present on both DWM rounds near case mouth, Kynoch has 3 crimp marks half way down the neck. All case have blue sealant ? present round the primer. On the kitchen scales weight were 40grams for 2 case and 43grams. These certainly aren't good scale but they would indicate that yes DWM manufactured a factory 400/401gr 10.75x68 load.

Interesting photos and information PM66. As obvious in the photo the overall length of the 400gr DWM cartridge is quite out of spec compared with the those with the normal 347gr bullet which is unusual for a factory cartridge to do. Acceptable to drop down in bullet weight and have a shorter cartridge OAL but to go up in COAL is strange. Do you think that there is any possibility that the DWM round with the 400gr bullet is a reload? The purple primer sealant does not look factory as there appears to be no sealant on the primer itself. The sealant looks to be just around the rim of the primer pocket possibly remaining from an earlier initial firing?

I had what I thought to be a factory loaded 10.68x68 cartridge, Norma case with black primer sealant untouched around the rim and primer edge. The bullet was a hollow point affair and crimped into the case. Curiosity got the better of me as I wanted to see just what weight the bullet was so I pulled it and discovered the case was indeed an unfired Norma case with a berdan primer but it contained no powder. The bullet weighed out at 285gr and is RWS branded on the base. The hollow looks to be factory formed i.e. not a drilled out plain soft nose bullet bullet. In the the photos below, the copper coloured bullet is the 285gr and the nickel coloured a flat nosed a 347gr RWS.

I think I actually brought this cartridge back from my time in Germany as I have had it for many years thinking it was a fully loaded factory round. I note that Woodleigh advertise in all their old and new catalogues, bullets for the 10.75x68 are 347grs whereas they supply a true 350gr weight bullet for the .404. I suspect the cannelures are placed differently on these two close 10.75 bullets to allow for correct COAL in the intended cartridges.

Well a very close examination confirms what you suspected Eagle27 ! Although there is remanants of sealant around the the rims you are correct and the primer is clean unlike the other two rounds, the brass does not indicate it had been FLS or reloaded and I stand corrected until other evidence of a 400gr Factory round is presented. I have just had a 10.75x68 built but am awaiting stock work to be finished. Thanks for the info

Yes does look like the 400gr is a reload. Not withstanding that the 10.75x68 loaded with a 400gr bullet crimped in place would still be close to the original .404 specs and there is nothing wrong with that. Provided of course the magazine was long enough and the throat was not too short. Then again with good 347gr Woodleighs there will be no flies on the cartridge loaded to 2200 - 2300 fps MV.
