Help !! MauserWerke 10.75x68 Identification and mfg date
      #254101 - 26/09/14 06:15 PM

Good morning gentlemen,

I just bought this restored Mauser rifle in 10.75x68.
The forend of the stock was broken so it was entirely renewed by JC SAVIN who has the title of best France worker (a traditional title really hard to get in France).
I must admit the work he has done is great according to the traces i see, the rifle must have been in a bad shape.all the parts are at the same nr.

I am looking for the date of manufacturing i can see a U with a crown but except with serial nr and remaining markings it might not be easy to say.
I guess it can be a safari model.

The magazine plate has the last 3 serial nr digit marked in the inside.
the bolt handle has the U crowned under it.

let me know if you need other details for identification.

Thank you for your help and glad to be here.

A Mauser type B rifle, factory code BRCD (600 mm round barrel, tangent rear sight, two stage trigger). The serial number 109864 dates it to 1931, according to Jon Speed's books. The crown/U (Untersuchung = inspected for defects) is part of the contemporary BUG proof marks, stamped by the Oberndorf proofhouse from 1924 to 1934. The BUG marks are hardly visible on the receiver ring of this rifle, in front of the serial number.

Impressive answer thanks.

I thought models A or B had this lever to open the magazine plate, and not the trigger guard button?
I will definitly have to get the book from Jon speed...

Pascal, welcome to Nitro Express!
If Oberndorf Mausers get you excited then you definitely need Speed's books.
I cannot add anything to what kuduae has said but the differing magazine releases could be had on practically any model on the standard sized action.

Bonjour, Pascal! Lovely rifle, and lovely first post! Welcome to the Nitroexpress forums!

Hope you find many more treasures like this one for your gunsafe. And, please feel free to post pictures of your other guns here. We appreciate fine guns as a group, and I am sure that the fine aesthetic sense that is a part of the French national character, has put many more treasures into your gunsafe!

Best wishes, and happy collecting, shooting, and hunting from a happy Francophile!

Hello Mehul (if i don't mistake on the first name),

Thanks for your message, according to what i saw on the forum you are a fan and customer of Dorleacs work!
I do also even if -for the moment- i just stare at their treasures!!
it is on the advice of Joel Dorleac that i chose this mauser instead of an octogonal model, much more expensive despite the fact it was re-mounted with various and poor quality elements..
I will post pictures of my wilhelm Brenneke 9.3x64 FN/mauser rifle from 1964 as soon as i have time this we.

Amicalement
Pascal

As promised here is my Wilhelm Brenneke in 9.3x64.

According to Dr MANK, great grand son of wilhelm Brenneke, this rifle was manufactured in 1964 and from 1955 to 1971.
There were only 500 pieces built.

Thank you, Pascal! Yes, our friend Joel is a true Master, indeed. I consider myself privileged to get to see his masterpieces from time to time. And, what a gentleman! I will be retiring this December, and hope to meet him and request a full commission from his shop to spend my best years hunting.

Thank you for the pictures of both your treasures! Hope you find many more to join them in your gunsafe. Please keep posting and checking in here whenever you find time!

Good hunting!

philo120 your 10.75x68 must have been just going out the door of the Mauser-Werke as my #109624 was being started (mine is now a 404J).

Here's what the proof marks look like when distinct.
