That is one fabulous rifle. You are very fortunate. Please tell more about how it shoots and what you have done with it.

Thanks,
Curl

It's ben around and collected some history - wonderful rifle to own and shoot. Be nice to have known more of it's past. Shipped to Africa with 200rounds is an excellent start, of course. That's something and more than many rifles can contribute.

Certainly looks like a rifle that has earnt it's keep. Brand new rifles look great but to me the worn and used ones hold more appeal as they have -well their owners-tales to tell. Like the calibre too.

As said if you can find out more about it's history that would be great.

The 350 Rigby's are one of the great, all-time classics

Hello Mehul Kamdar!
Unfortunately it is not my rifle.
It is on sale in Germany under the specified reference: http://www.egun.de/market/item.php?id=3773601
I use DR A.Frankotte .450Nfb (http://new-kynoch.apt-sites.com/450%20N%20for%20B.htm)
Excuse for my awful English, I use the Automatic translator:)

The Rigby case design is WAY ahead of it's time. I'd sure like to be able to purchase an identical rear sight for my .375, 9.3x62 and 9.3x57 - for $300.00 or less, that is.

Of course, the 400/350 and the 350 Rigby Magnum are not the same cartridge, although they were built on the same action and used the same style stock. The 400/350 is a rimmed cartridge, much like the 9.3X74R. In fact, it is possible to form 400/350 cases out of 9.3X74R brass.

The original Mauser magnum action with a slanted magazine box was designed specifically for this rimmed cartridge.

The 400/350 featured a long parallel sided round nosed 310 grain bullet of great penetrating power at a modest 2000 fps. The .350 Rigby Magnum used a 225 grain bullet at 2625 fps, clearly designed to compete with the .375 H&H.

I once owned an original Rigby 400/350, but since the 310 grain bullets with which it was originally loaded were no longer available, and no prospect of getting any, I let it go, much to my present chagrin. A few years ago, I had the opportunity to reacquire it, but alas, no longer in its original condition. It had been rebarrelled to .375 H&H (a conversion which Rigby also performed) and restocked, but it still occupies a place of honor in my gun room.

The rifle on sale in Germany is described as follows:

Original RIGBY / ZIVILMAUSER Kal.

Oringinal Rigby commercial Mauser, 400/350 with single square bridge original Mauser Magnum action, non matching numbers. The weapon has been professionally restored, with original folding sight, on the barrel signed "John Rigby...", on the left side of the action "Waffenfabrik Mauser Oberndorf a/N". Floorplate latch within the trigger guard loop, so called "slanted box magazine" Built around 1905, barrel slightly rough--a seldom offered safari rifle.

The starting price for the auction, 5,400.00 EUR = $7,141.20, seems a bit steep, given the mismatched numbers, the refinished metal and stock and the rough bore, but maybe not.

Don't forget the 400/350 No.2 load of the rimmed case which is supposed to be the same ballistically with the 225gr. bullet of the rimless cartridge. Not sure if they get up to that speed in real life though.

I do like the 350 Rigby bolt guns though no matter which case they chamber.

Serial number 3140 was sold on July 10, 1908! Serial number 2483 was sold on May 31, 1905. Action and barrel number on 2483 is 233, which is pretty early. Both guns appear as original according to the ledgers.

Admit to club of owners the Mauser from Rigby:)
As a result I bought it! http://www.egun.de/market/item.php?id=4221957 (Rigby 400/350 s.N.2483)
Now I don't know where to me to buy cartridges 400/350
Maybe who has excess components 400/350 (case, bullets 310 Woodleigh, Die) I would buy with sending to Germany or Austria...
Yours faithfully!
