What model would this be, anyone?

I have an opportunity to pick one up for a grand. Good deal? Or not?
I have not seen it - yet..

Well, if what I can find is correct the Model 1952 Improved was the first M/S chambered for the 308. So in theory, at least, it could be any model after that.

Tks. It might also be a Model 93 Mauser someone re-barreled to .308 and called is an MS.
I'll have to see it, of course. Was wondering about the possible model and age.
Since the .308 came out in 1955, I assume that would likely be the model.
Was there a later one?

First, look at the rifle. I noticed for example that in North America everything that has a short barrel and a long stock is often referred to as MS.

However, it could still be a MS. When it comes to calibers, you often experience surprises by Steyr. I own an original, non-modified MS Model GK caliber 9,3x64, a rifle that normally should not exist. It is a serial rifle, not one for a customer, but the rifle cannot be found in any catalog and Steyr does not know nowadays anything more about it either.

Wow!!!! that certainly is an interesting rifle, never even heard of any other ever coming up for sale or anyone else owning one, very rare.

What length barrel is it.

Do the spool and the bolt face/extractor look like they have been modified by hand. Obviously I mean professionally by someone at the factory.

Several years ago one was advertised used guns or similar. I was interested if it was a factory production. Apparently it was not and many advised against it as there could be problems with the magazine, bolt face/extractor, depending on what the original calibre was. As I had little knowledge of the MS and it was interstate so I could only see photos I declined.

I was scratching my head trying to remember why I did not buy it and your post Matt reminded me.

If a 8x68S can be chambered in an MS, the same bolt face can probably be used. The magazine may also work. Feeding, I don't know.

Thanks guys. I guess I'll see what it is, if the owner brings it to Nithi Resort where I 'camp', about 100 miles from it's lodging, currently.
