Nice one, i think i have seen this before, but never made a bid on it.

Wouldnt it be a good thing if the members on this forum made an agreement as to not bid over one another, i think the prices would gow down a bit.

Hopefully we will see it resting over the back of an moose sometime in the future, or even better a wolf.

Very nice. It should be a joy to shoot. Please give a report on the rifle and the hunt.

Kapu

That thing is a sweetheart.
Looks like the straight-wall 450, not a bottleneck?
Slim and slick!

Cartridge trap, set trigger (or both?), and peep-sight on the tang!

Get some ammunition loaded and shoot it.
Let's see how it runs.

Cheers

I have made this (bidding) agreement with some friends in the past and what happens is that one person is always the first to throw his hat in the ring or has another user name to go by. It is best to have open bidding and then everyone has a chance.

Kapu,I haven't been on for a while and  I was pleased to see your rifle.  You'd have trouble if I ever got my grungy little paws on it. :^)    Have you got a load worked up for it yet?   I'm sure you love it, nice rifle.

Hi,

Have not had time to work with the load, not even to enjoy the rifle. Might go up to late July - early August, before I do have time a smoke out of her. The case is 450 3" 1/4 straight-wall, not necked.

IMHO we can date this rifle More closely: There are no German crown/BUG proofmarks visible, only the Sauer & Sohn "caveman" private proofmark and a crown/V mark that looks very similar to the London "View" mark. This crown/V mark is the German "Vorrathszeichen" = "in stock mark". Before the German 1891 proof law became effective on April 1, 1893, all guns already completed and on maker's ore dealer's shelves had to be marked with this stamp to document the proof exemption of guns made before that date. According to the German imperial order of January 4th, 1893, application of this stamp ended with March 1893, the V-stamps were to be destoyed on April 1. So this rifle was completed, but not sold, in the time span from January to March 1893.
