I know sfa about them I must admit but when that lion comes thundering down the game trail straight towards me and i have one of those supposedly shitty rifles in my hand I would feel pretty bloody good about the whole episode and wouldn't give a tinkers cuss as to where my rifle was made, in fact that thought wouldn't even cross my mind and I am sure with the same scenario happening with you gents you wouldn't be thinking about sausages or frogs legs either!

I will have one! Oh and one of those beautiful French sheila`s too!

Dandyofpunjab,
I have no 16 ga. Charlin, only 12 gauge, and one 12 ga. converted, using W.Ellis Brown methods, to double rifle. I don't believe that recoil has anything to do with one particular maker of gun/rifle, but has to do with gun weight, gun fit--stock dimensions/shape, bullet weight/charge, etc. so it isn't correct to say that a particular make recoils more or less, for it has to do more with the aforementioned than make of gun/rifle.

(400Nitro - No offence to you, just having a dig since
I copped it the other day).

If Texan's keep reminding you that Texas is a big state,

500 nitro, A good friend, a biologist with our Oregon State Fish & Wildlife Commission, grew tired of hearing a Texan brag about how big Texas is, so he told him that Oregon is way bigger than Texas, and the Texan looked at him as if her had lost his marbles, as he said "no way." My friend next said, oh, yes it is, if you iron Oregon out flat, the way Texas is, it is way larger. The Texan shut up after that. Another Texan I know, after living in Oregon for years, when I asked what he liked most about Texas, said, "all roads lead out of Texas! Enough said.

LOL - Good one.

It's always a good one to pull out when in the US as it surprises a few people.

I moved your post to the Politics Forum. I appreciate your sentiments but in order to be consistent, and not allow the Camel's nose into the tent, I could not leave it here.

I know you understand and thanks for the cooperation.

No problem.

Reading the more On Topic elements of the thread and more to the point, I am curious as to whether there actually was a time {or specific model or series in production} when Chapuis guns suffered from poor heat treating, poor materials or both? Can anybody nail that down?

I have highlighted the last line. We have a politics forum primarily for firearms related political issues. Some of the other issues that get people all worked up and ferment really juvenile arguments, I suggest seeking out some of lots of other forums catering for them on the net already.

I'd love to hear more about peoples' personal experience with Chapuis' double rifles, as generally in recent times I have nothing but good comments from most owners.

Coming back to the point: yes chapuis is a discounted gun for its real quality (which is not a HH)! To me that is obvious. The same way german cars are a few times overated (they are great no mistake about it). If you donīt have any prejudice just take advantage on it. I have, and bought two new, beautifull working doubles for probably less than one single, patched up old double from somewhere with more prestige...

As much as some of us go on about English Doubles - to the point of Anglophobia (me included but often in jest !!!),
the Chapuis's of this world (and others like Merkel, Heym, Zoli etc al) are damn good guns for the money and good using guns to have in the safe.

I tried to post a long reply to my experience with Chapuis.
When I tried to post it I got a not valid response. to sum up my experiences with Chapuis, I will never buy another one.

"Quick replies" do time out after a while. For long posts which take a while use the proper reply buttons. If a "quick reply" times out, just hit BACK, then REFRESH on your browser and your typed post is 99% of the time still there, and will now post OK as a quick reply.
