Hawk Bullets

Which jacket thickness do you guys choose when ordering Hawk bullets. What is your resoning for ordering that specific thickness? Any comments appreciated.

I do not use Hawk bullets to hunt anything important as then turn into silver dollars regardless of jacket thickness. Also, they do not seem to hold together well above 2000 fps, regardless of whether the 0.035 or 0.065 jacket.

I've had good results with .030 196gr .318 Hawk bullets in my drillings and cape gun. They are a bit soft, but I don't use them in high velocity applications. I recently tried their 200gr in a 9,3X72R, and it seems to be perfect for that old round.

I use Hawk .035" 270 gr. flat points in my .40-82WCF with contemporary high velocity loadings. They are tremendously accuracte in my original Marlin 1895 rifle. They work great on Whitetails and generally penetrate to just under the skin on the far side of the animal (shoulder shots). I like 'em.

I have used the following Hawk bullets with perfect results.
In my 450.400 3 1/4" double rifle the .025jkt, 300 gr has taken a deer and several wild pigs. All have been drop to the shot kills. About 50% have given complete penetration. The bullets I recovered where as 500 grains said "coined out".
BIG mushroom, no bullet shank.

I have killed one pig with my 450/400 and the 400 gr .035jkt. It expanded well, but had decent shank left. It was a quartering shot on a running pig.

In my 9,3x74R a 285 gr Hawk with the .035jkt has taken a few deer, a few Impala, a baboon, and several wild pigs. All but one have been drop to the shot kills. One pig ran about 20 feet. Recovered bullets were the size of a quarter with a good shank left.

I have been really pleased with the performance of Hawk bullets in my guns.
Velocity with the 300 gr 400's is 2330fps, the 400 gr 400's @2100fps and the 9,3's 285's @ 2250fps.

I repeat, ALL have been drop to the shot kills, except one pig that ran about 20 feet.

You cannot get any better than that IMHO.

Would you happen to have any pictures of the expansion from the .035 Hawks on game? I am looking for a good all around .408 bullet for NA game. Anyone have field experience with thicker jackets then .035?

450-400 3.25" with 400gr at standard velocity and maybe 300 or 350 gr (depending on what shoots best) for deer, plinking and such. Also may use them in a 375 H&H and/or 338 WM for thin skinned game. Not really set on bullet weights for these two.
