Nice wood.

Guys, come on, that's what you're supposed to say when nothing else positive can be said.

Otherwise,

Pardon, me, Aghem! That is really a nice piece of wood.

Plus;

It has the cocking safety. Pushing the safety forward hard cocks the gun. Better have a strong thumb.

I've owned two. First one, 500/416, wouldn't chamber anything in the right barrel except WR ammo. The rim cut on that barrel was too shallow to take SAAMI ammo. Then, after the factory screwed around with me for months, the ammo fit, however the forearm cracked in half after 8 rounds.

I sent it back and they sent me a 470. It was MUCH better. The barrels crossed at 25 yards, and the right barrel printed seven inches to the left of the left barrel. I took it to a gunsmith and he regulated the barrels to hold three inches at 50 yards. He said that's about as good as they shoot!

Ok, I'll live with that. Back to the range. Third shot. As I set the gun down I noticed a slight line on the buttstock. Yuuup, a crack. Sure, I'll just fix it again and trust it implicitly while hunting Cape Buffalo in Botswana.

Back to the dealer for a full refund.

Oh, what'd I end up using? Ruger #1 in 458 Lott. Worked as advertised. Still works. I've taken two Cape buffalo, a Kudu, a warthog, a lechwe (with a solid), and a California wild hog. One shot and thump-on-the-ground. I've also got a #1 in 450 NE. But that will probably be in classified fairly soon.

Maybe you should have bought a Sabatti! HAHAHAHA...

Is the floating breech designed to obviate the need for hand fitting the barel to the breech?

The RIM won't take SAAMI ammo ?

What specs did they use to proof the gun
or are SAAMI Specs so different to CIP ?

But thinking about it, 500/416 is a Euro design,
it's surprising that ammo being recent manufacture
doesn't work ?

I just had a look and it seems Blaser isn't a member of SAAMi, not that it should matter.

Actually, I have a D99 which is the drilling version of the S2.

I feel like someone is stirring the pot here.

I am not saying these things did not happen but it is not my experience at all. I have 2 9.3 x 74R barrels and a shotgun barrel. The tilting breech is a non issue and mine in regulated very nicely. It does not need to be sent to a gunsmith to regulate as you can easily do it yourself.

The S2 is not a gun for double rifle purists. But for someone who like to change loads a lot, it can be a great alternative.

Cheers,

Matt

One of our members I know had another one and also it would not regulate and whatever else went wrong, it was returned for a refund.

Ahhhhhh...... the dust cover extension thingy over the chambers is a little odd, maybe one of you gents with more experience can explain that. Also the angle of the grip looks awful tight, seems it may bash the crap out of your middle finger with the trigger guard. Other than that it's not that bad looking........... chuckT.

The only benefit you get over other makes is that you swap the barrels over, but that's it.

There's no advantage with price, manual cocking or lack of an ejector option.

I have a friend with one of these in 375H&H and he has fiddled with the regulation adjustment and it works okay. He also claims that being able to remove the floating breach block easily makes it more secure when storing, but I doubt there is any real value in this.

I should not to have to regulate a new double. The factory regulated the new barrels with a laser, not by shooting. I had to assemble the barrels on the action for the first time. How do I know that? well, the barrel hooks wouldn't fit into the action. A small judicious effort with a jewelry file was necessary to put the gun together. I know the gun had never been fired.

Oh yeah, the floating breach can be removed easily. Just be damn sure you don't toggle the lever accidentally. The breach block can and will fall out. V. embarrassing!

ACTUALLY, THE BLASER TILTING BREECH BLOCK SYSTEM IS CONSIDERABLY BETTER THAN THE UNINFORMED WOULD LEAD ONE TO BELIEVE. YES, IT MAY LOOK “STRANGE” TO THE UNINFORMED, BUT IT CERTAINLY ISN'T A “CONTRAPTION.” IT ISN'T HIDEOUS EITHER, EXCEPT IN THE EYES OF THE UNINFORMED. MAY I SUGGEST THAT YOU ALL EDUCATE YOURSELF FIRST, DO A BIT OF READING, BEFORE CRITISIZING SOMETHING YOU DONT' UNDERSTAND?

What we have here, with the Blaser tilting block system, is a historically old , early design, by one of the most gifted gun designers ever, Jaeger of Germany. It is perhaps the strongest design EVER, for double rifles. It allows for the solid steel block to lock directly onto the barrels, so that all breech pressure forces are contained within that barrel/block assembly; not requiring the action standing breech itself to contain any pressure forces, so wear, and failure problems, associated with the underlump hook and barrels coming off face are decreased tremendously. This system will allow for chambering much higher breech pressure cartridges, than will the more traditional system. A Ferlach Austria gunmaker, Scheiring, chambered the .300 Pegasus (87,000 psi) on a double rifle using this Jaeger system, without a problem. Try that on your traditional double rifle bolting system! I have nothing to do with Blaser, but I did spend a good amount of time studying various double gun/rifle systems of the world. Seems to me that before you begin to criticize something only because it looks odd or different, you first need to try to understand it.

doubleriflejack

I think you may be taking some of the comments to heart and some are / may have been in jest.

100 or so years ago, the same type of people probably said the same thing about Over and under shotguns !!!

Blasers will always cause arguments, be it the Double or the Straight Pull rifles, you won't get away from it.

And yes, I have looked at them closely.

Is that the same locking system they use on the K95 single shot ? only in duplicate so to speak ? It seems to me the top extension cover would help keep the action clear of debris when opening.

Debris from what ?

Sounds like you come up with products and then find a problem to apply it to ?

I'm sure most of you know, the top cover has the recess for the locking lug in the "floating" breech - this arrangement does make it easier (at the factory) to headspace. I'm sure it doesn't serve any other deliberate intended purpose.

doubleriflejack,
take a deep breath. I was asking what all the metal hanging over the top of breech was about. most anyone on looking at the pictures would think it's somewhat odd. i still think it might smack a person in the finger given the tight angle/curve of the grip. hells bells man I said I thought it looked fairly nice. chuckT.
