Hunting the Big five

A couple of years back i hunted plainsgame in South Africa.It was a high point of my hunting career.Since then i have been contemplating hunting some of thew big five namely lion,leopard& cape buffallo.Recently i saw a video of Mark Sullivan& my interest has been further aroused.Can anybody who has hunted these animals guide me as to where i should go & whom to cotact. Thanks.

You are welcome to speak to any of my outfitters! They are all experiened PH's on dangerous game. I will be trying buffalo for the first time this August.

Zim is probably the cheapest destination. Get a copy of African Hunter magazine as most of the outfitters that advertise there are reputable.

The cheapest and in my opinion the most exciting of the Big 5 to hunt is the Cape Buffalo. It's not worth hunting any dangerous game within the borders of South Africa as it will be at least as expensive as hunting a true wilderness area. Also you'll be hunting behind wire so that takes away a lot of the enjoyment.

I can take you to your choice of 4 seperate countries to hunt Buff in wilderness areas, but I would reccommend that Tanzania is probably the best. The Selous! Tell us abit about that when you can.

I would love to hunt that area one day. I have driven through (or on the Northern boundary?) of the Selous and remember we had to stop for a herd of elephant crossing the road including some nice tusks (well for nowadays anyway).

I remember researching the area and that it had the largest concentration of elephant at that time in Africa.

I agree with you. Cape Buffalo is the most exciting one of the Big Five to hunt in my experience.

That is, because it is the only one of the Big Five I have hunted!

But having seen an elephant towering over me and a bush, a leopard kill a monkey in a tree near camp and lions circle our camp just outside the firelight - I think the others would be very exciting as well. Perhaps more.

White rhino doesn't do anything for me, but Black rhino now you are talking.

What exciting stories have you got squirreled away that we could tempt you to share?
