First off I can see I am going to like this forum. Many of the names I recognize some I don't, but at any rate I like the atmosphere.

Secondly, I want to thank Holmes for permission to post a few pics. Albeit, with the caveat that I participate in the forum and don't just use it for advertising. No problem there.

Lastly, I want to apologize that the photos are of a meager 338 Mag. I have a 458 WM and a 505 Gibbs in the near future.

Here's a link to my imagestation photo album. There are photos of the complete rifle there, plus a couple more. The photos can be enlarged at the imagestation site. Just left click the picture.

Welcome, ain't it nice to have a bit of peace and quiet? No overbearing opinions being expressed here. I had reg'd a while back and forgot that I did. When the trollwars started I came here for a little escape.

...that's some terrific artwork/engraving...didn't you recently do the engraving on an sci-boddington rem?...

...may i enquire where you developed your engraving skills?...

...in any case, welcome...

It is good to read nice calm threads about things I like to talk about instead of a bunch of griping and complaining.

Thanks for the comments. I did engrave the Boddington bottom metal. It is also featured in the photo album. Take a look if you get the chance.

The engraving is self taught like most of the engravers in this country (I've been engraving for 20 years). I did spend a couple of weeks with Tommy Kaye back in the late eighties.

Thanks for the welcome.

...think you are certainly on to something...talked recently to paul lantuch...rising stateside demand for fine engraving limited only by a shortage of fine engravers...

That is some fine work, nothing better then to admire work done by a true craftsman.
You seam to have a touch of McKenzie scroll and English scroll patterns in your work it gives a very different and three dimensional flow to the scroll, much like chefs it seams self taught scroll artist bring something unique to there craft.

Nice work Scrollcutter. How do you go about pricing engraving? Do the prices include re-blueing the gun?

All jobs are one offs, so I quote each job individually.

I can do all of the polishing and/or (rust)bluing, but neither polish nor finishing is included in the price.

...paul (originally from lithuania) is the head engraver of ruger's new 'custom' division...his artwork was on display at the recent sci-reno convention (rsm, 1-h and vaquero)...

...paul says that the best engravers are without a doubt italian bulino-style artists...he also likes brit engravers (ken hunt, the brothers, etc.) and german engravers...he says that stateside engravers have a way to go in this area...

...on the last point, i would say that your artwork and the artwork of others such as winston churchill may cause him to reflect on that point...
