Supporting the enemy?
      #38623 - 03/10/05 08:51 AM

I just read that Castle Lager may be a donor to a group dedicated to eliminating firearms from South Africa.

If you knew a company was against hunting and against firearms ownership or government in Africa was abusing it's citizens would you still support them by purchasing their product or going there?

Do hunter's have any responsibility towards the people who live in a country we visit?

To a point.

China has had issues with human rights violations, but how many things to you have at home made in China? Most people are ignorant to what happens outside their community, never mind outside their country, and the pocket book always dictates purchases. Should I stop buying Australian wines because of what the government did to the gun owners down there, or should foreign hunters boycott hunting there? No. However, I have no desire to go to Zimbabwe while Mugabe is there, and if a particular company was anti gun/hunting, then yes I would not support them. Hell, I do my best to boycott Walmart.

500 Nitro

There are two reasons:

1. They hurt the smaller business in the community that do not have the buying power that they do.

2. They are not known to be a good employer.

Nothing to do with hunting, more about supporting the little guy (and no I'm not a commie).

I thought you'd say that.

I've heard about the employment practices of Wal Mart
keeping everyone "on call" and calling them in at short notice
for short periods of time - like being employed when your
not employed from what I could read.

and I understand the buying power thing.

Adam,

Right to the point! Wally World came a few years ago to our small town and wiped out about half of the old established merchants...the ones who supported Little Leauge Baseball, Boby Sox Softball, etc. And, Wally hasn't forked over a red cent to these organizations here.

Now, they are building a Super Wally World and will wipe out the only other two grocery stores. "Your Good Neighbor"...BULLSHIT!

BOYCOTT THE BASTARDS!!!

What is Tusker's stance regarding Guns & Hunting?

I'm changing my beer for sure, in actual fact I will not buy any product from SAB. Even if they do not donate any money, they were thinking about it. If they had an issue with illigal weapons it would be a different story.

Luv2Safari,

Tusker is owned by SA Breweries I'm afraid........ in fact all of the Tanzanian beers are now owned by SAB. - Guess we'll have to drink whisky instead!!!!

Whisky works just fine. I hope SAB doesn't have the Bottled water market all to istelf, however.

It is diificult to keep track of the enemies, the list seems so big.

But I refuse to buy gas at Phillips 66 and Conoco, and go to WalMart at the last resort. But if WalMart is the only thing left, what other choice is there?

And as far as USA available beer, Budweiser is as good as any and they are the good guys (as far as I know).

JB,
We had lots of Windhoek and Heineken. They are more expensive, but they are also better brewed.

People I know who work for Walmart like working for them a lot. Whenever I go into a Walmart (I avoid them usually because of the crowds) I find the employees to be terrific, with smiles on their faces, not sullen and unhappy. As far as "buying power"goes, Walmart has steamrollered other big retailers with similar "buying power". That is not their edge. They have developed an extremely efficient distibution system that can put a product on the shelf at a lower price than a competitor, even if they start with the same cost at the manufacturer level. Yeah, life was great back in the days when Ma and Pa ran the farm, or grocery store, the one room school house, or hardware store, or shoe store. Everyone lived so much better. There was such a wide selection of goods. The Little League teams were so well financed. Everyone had a well paying job. Nobody beat up their spouse in those days either.

well put - at 7% of the 3.3 Trillion dollar market, they're not missing those sales.
: Last resort- on most stuff- but 1st for .17HMR ammo - $11.97 at Walmart compared to $19.95 at the other stores locally. I bought the high priced when I had to, but not now that the local Walmart stocks it (after 3 years of pestering).

Sunshine,
You are one of the lucky ones. We cannot grow grapes in the Limpopo province, except for Modimole ( Nylstroom). Please send me a PM with info on your wine farm. We enjoy our wines in the house.

My ancesters arived in RSA in 1705 from Germany, since then my german got very rusted. Your web site looks good, but I do not understand a word.

Regards
