Double Day Highlight
      #217411 - 01/10/12 09:01 AM

Pato declared this Sundays hunt a doubles only day. I will try to get photos posted today. These photos were a sequence of the buffalo we collected. Rifle is a Cogswell and Harrison .475 Nitro

Never seen a sidelock Coggie. Are they rare?

Have a look at the other post I just listed. Some good photos showing exactly how inquisitive they can be.

Great pictures. Don't know squat about hunting buffalo in your part of the world. Have a couple of questions. Is it unusual for one to stand for a stalk that close? That little bush sure isn't much cover. Also the angle makes it kind of hard to tell, how close was Pato at the shot? Again great pics, chuck.

Chuck

It depends on the area, the buffalo, how shot up they are,
the cover, wilderness areas or a property where they are used to seeing vehicles / people - in other words, a whole range of things.

I have had totally wild one's in brush stay around and get inquisitive as well a piss off damn quick as soon as they get even a hit of something not being right.

I shoot most animals stationary - and other photos on here show similar so they will let you stalk up, that animal in the photo above has let them get very close IMHO.

Just my HO.

Pato was very, very close when he shot this one. You can tell that from the fact that he got it

500Nitro , Claydog , Thanks for the information. Still find it amazing the big so and so would let you get that close and not run off or run you over. Looks to be 25 yards or closer, angle makes it hard to judge. I think my knees would have been knocking pretty good if in Patos' shoes. chuck.

Cheers Chuck,
Pato would have been inside 20 yards. No danger really, you can tell if they are agitated or not. Ones like this will usually turn and trot off when they have had enough. Like 500 Nitro said other times you cant get anywhere near them once they know your there. The ones in the other post from Monday walked up to probably 15 yards distance and there was no implied threat, just curiosity. Never seems to happen with a big horned bull unfortunately. At least not to me.

Did Pato have his son there as back up?
It sounds like that young man is a buff killing machine!
I saw some of the photo's.

Did Pato junior tell you that himself. He wasn't there this time. They fight to much over who will take the shot. Tends to upset other participants. I have a big heap of photos of their hunts I am putting together to post. Keep an eye out.

Or me for that matter.

That is why they are a big horned bull !!! LOL

I have been lucky in catching some by surprise (ie close)
but have never had a big horned bull be inquistive. Stand their ground from when they first see you but not walk towards me.

But, others have seen and shot a lot more Buffalo than me
so the more you see, the higher the chance !!!

A lot of it depends on your behaviour, the situation and temperament of the animal at the time. Buffalo temperament tends to change through the day.

It seems that everyone is a buff shooting fool down there! I had a good time just meeting them face to face!
Good folks down there!
