Very Nice. I really handled my first Sharps about a week ago and was amazed at how heavy the bbl was on it.... Is there a reason for this? |

Heavy barrels were/are a way to help reduce felt recoil. This is important with the longer cartridges. I wanted one with the standard weight barrel, even though this is not particularly light when compared to modern arms; I plan to carry it in the woods. |

Seroadglide, Yes, they are beautiful rifles and I did drool over them at the NRA convention. You are a gentleman of fine taste! Brent, Beautiful rifle and trophy. Good hunting! |

Mehulkamdar, Thank you for your kind words. The quality of these rifles is evident throughout. Brent, I appreciate your link; I found it very enjoyable. Well done. I hope to use mine during the local whitetail season. I have begun practice for offhand use. Doug |

Not near as exciting as Brent's kills, but here is the first victim of my Shiloh. |

I took this buffalo in northern Nebraska this past December with a Shiloh in 45-70, 535 grain postel bullet with 70 grains of 1 1/2 swiss black powder. It was -21 degrees when the photo was taken. |

Cool! My bro's M74 Sharps .50 Alaskan with 28" tapered round McGowen barrel with 24" twist, weighs exactly 11-1/2 pounds. This is his ctg. gun for hunting, with a 520gr. FN. He rarely packs it now, as his main hunting rifle is a .60 Cal Jaeger flintlock. : His .50 Sharps shot into 10", elbow rest off the truck hood at 450 yards, open sights - black powder loads with 86gr. 2F GOEX. It started off as a .45 3-1/4" with a badly rifled barrel only .0015 deep. Rebarreled with a proper twist McGowen blank, it turned into a 1-1/2" MOA rifle to 300yards. The Shilos will shoot and quality control is better now than 25 years ago. |

Forgot to add the photo of the Sharps. #1 Sporter 45/70 30 inch heavy barrel Traditional pewter forearm tip Ttaditional steel butt plate, (shotgun type) Semi-fancy wood. Copper penny front sight Mid range Tang sight. Weight 12 lb 6 1/2 oz. I use Winchester brass, 70 grains 1 1/2 F Swiss black powder, 20-1 postel 535 grain Paul Jones bullet with SPG lub Both bullets exited the buffalo an 115 yards through the front shoulder taking out the heart and lungs. I would have added the photo with the above post but for some reason it would not take two photos. |

Seroadglide, I can see where that trophy is heading - a fur coat for the Mrs when you have enough pelts, I am sure! My business partner is doing exactly this at the moment, a nice way of getting the ladies to accept new gun purchases, I am sure. You don't just learn about guns over here - you also learn about how to buy more and still keep the better half happy! Rolland, One more beauty! Good hunting to all you gentlemen! |
