Quote: I know the pain..Here for every firearm we want (including BB guns!) we must pay $35 for a "Permit to Acquire"..then send it out and wait 2 weeks - many months for it to come back. When it does we can go get our new toy. OH and for each centerfire rifle we need a "Genuine reason" to own it.. Fine..I'll be patient! >.< Really want to know how these things work! Looks a treat. I'm sure you'll be coming back to this thread lots to keep relooking at the pictures whilst waiting for it all to arrive |

so here it is, was a long time think I will freshen up the stock had seen a lot of use the rear looking bolt with the very strong receiver was ahead of its time, whats common today with CNC machining was then good old craftmansship. the three position wing safety works exactly like a mauser safety. the spring loaded magazin cover moving the follower in when open first rifle I know a Suhler Einhakmontage claw mount is not made in germany/austria. think it was made by S&L when the rifle was sporterized after the war. the claw mount parts looking a little bit different - speaking danish with heavy german accent. scandinavian trio, swedisch mauser, danish S&L, finnish mosin for a quartet I would need a norwegian Kongsberg M 48 or M 51 Krag but they are rare http://www.kvf.no/vaapen.php?type=Rifle&weaponid=RIF0109 http://www.kvf.no/vaapen.php?type=Rifle&weaponid=RIF0110 my cock on closing bolt action number three, swedisch mauser, schultz&larsen, hungarian G 98/40 the four rounds magazine+one in the chamber reminds me on the old mosin that use a similar rimmed cartridge. difference is you can not load the S&L magazine from the top. you fill the magazin by open the cover and let fall 4 rounds into it for open the magazine cover you have to press the spring loaded button on the right side when I had the rifle in my hands first time the bolt falls out of the receiver and I was looking for th bolt stop. was not sure about this because it dont move in the beginning and its sometimes wise if you dont use brutal force. than the lever move and it is indeed the bolt stop looks like S&L makes usally full and half stocks sporter here is a full stock for sale in canada http://psmilitaria.50megs.com/guns.html and this is the same model I have http://danskgevaer.com/wp/?cat=5 |

if you go a little bit into details learn the S&L M 42 standing no alone when base on a target rifle action it sah the sun first as hunting Stutzen M 38 with a 3 rounds magazine closed with the teutonic lever and the teutonic double set trigger. Schultz&Larsen had a strong german connection when they bought surplus gunmaker machines from germany after 1918 also making submachine guns and machine guns for german customers in the 1920s when it was forbidden in germany. I found the pics here on the site of the Schultz&Larsen Collectors Club which preserves the history of this firm. http://www.schultz-larsenrifleclub.dk/ a M 38 in 8x58RD and another M 38 in 6,5x58R the M 38 and the M 42 in the original police carbine version http://www.schultz-larsenrifleclub.dk/index_htm_files/R.P.L.T42.pdf http://www.schultz-larsenrifleclub.dk/index_htm_files/Politikarabinen_M1942%20%282%29.pdf the 6,5x58R is a 8x58R necked down to 6,5mm called 6,5mm M (19)28, first time I see a hunting rifle with this chamber. http://www.schultz-larsenrifleclub.dk/model%2042.htm after the war Schultz&Larsen were rebuild the M 42 in hunting rifles, two models with full and half stock. than the action was modified from time to time up the to the end of the 1970s. http://www.schultz-larsenrifleclub.dk/model%2054j.htm http://www.schultz-larsenrifleclub.dk/model%2056a.htm http://www.schultz-larsenrifleclub.dk/model%2060.htm http://www.schultz-larsenrifleclub.dk/model%2065-65dl.htm http://www.schultz-larsenrifleclub.dk/model%2065x.htm http://www.schultz-larsenrifleclub.dk/model%2068dl.htm http://www.schultz-larsenrifleclub.dk/model%2077.htm http://www.schultz-larsenrifleclub.dk/model%2080.htm the action once ahead of its time came to an end with the demand for take down rifles where the locking lugs are better in front of the bolt like in the actual S&L Model 97 http://www.schultzlarsen.com/m97dl.htm would like to see the old model in 458 Winchester mag M 65, the typical four rear locking lugs are good to see http://www.lauritz.com/en/auction/schultz-larsen-otterup-model-m65-calibre-6-5x57/i3168294/ |

I had an M65 in 7x61 Sharpe and Hart. Loved the rifle. I was luke warm on the caliber at the time and let it go. Would love to find another, even if in something as bland as 30-06. It's a marvelous action. Very smooth. Very strong. |

finally my M 42 is now on the way to the proof house in Suhl. ch4d had the die set on stock and send it very quick to me but for legally shoot the rifle here it have to be proofed. for obsolete ammo you have to give the proof house 4 factory rounds and then they load the proof cartridges. 8x58RD is hard to find and I was happy in the end to get some cases and bullets. dont know what happen once but most 8x58RD ammo looks like it was dumped into the sea for decades clean it, aneal it and set new 5,5mm RWS berdan primer( the hardest to get out primer ever, was like soft soldered into the case) hope they take brass made in 1928 my idea is to use 8x56R brass but this is nothing they accept in Suhl for the proof you see a 8x56R case loaded with the die set( it get a little step by the die here but can be loaded also without in the chamber) and danish military brass with a softpoint and the original spitzer bullet. its not easy to find trusted data about the 8x58RD so I was very happy to get this drawing made by the danish army arsenal. |

today I had the pleasure of a visit by Jørgen from the Schultz&larsen Collector Club in Denmark. He came acroos my home on a hunting trip an had two other S&L rifles in the car so I make pics. It was a M 65 in 243 Win. and M 68 in 308 Win., two models that have only minor differences. Jørgen had the opinion that this models have the best quality at all and its very clear that my wartime made M 42 could not have the same level of quality. actually the action of the M 65 and M 68 working very smooooooth here side by side with my M 42 that came back from the proof house in Suhl last week. of course it stand the proof it have a different bolt sleeve and safety but in the end its the same action. the receiver and the bolt ~ 15 mm longer than the one of the orignal M 42 action probably to deal with cartridges long like the 30 06. while the M 42 cock on closing the later models cock on opening like most other bolt actions M 68 M 65 the double row mauser style magazine of the later models against the M 42 single row magazine for rimmed cartridges pics from sweden in the 1980s when a "triplette" was shoot with this M 68 bull moose, cow moose and calf got some 8x58 RD cartridges, collector stuff like this original Norma cartridges and handloads with Norma and danish military cases left to right my own handload with the 200 grains 8mm S prvi bullet in 1929 made military brass unknown 12,7 gramm spitzer softpoint in military brass unknown 10 gramm softpoint in Norma brass original danish 8x58 RD military fmj copy of the Norma factory load with the 12,7 gramm Norma softpoint bullet in danish military brass Norma factory round not complete 8mm family 8x57IRS 8x58RD fmj and softpoint 8x57IS 8x57R 360, 8x58R S&S, 8x50R Mannlicher, 8x56R Kropatschek, 8x50R Lebel, 8x56R M 30, 8x56 MS, 8x60 S, 8mm MYSTERY, 8x64 Brennecke (not in the best shape but orignal pre war), 8x75RS 8mm Mystery? just find out now I have an unknown cartridge, something I thought before its a 8x64 Brennecke it isnt! the case having the DWM Karlsruhe 474C headstamp 474C is the case number for the 9,3x62 but this is a 8mm cartridge side by side with a 9,3x62 case |

the rifle SN 903 ( I have SN 945) was in auction last weekend in denmark http://www.lauritz.com/en/auction/dansk-politikarabin-model-1942-kaliber-8x58rd/i4003765/# it show some difference in checkering if compare with my own rifle so Schultz&larsen maybe make a customization. |
Jørgen from denmark send my pics of an accident happen last week. the owner of some kind of prototype rifle SN 1403 and made probably 1945/46 as a missing link between the Mod. 42 and the later Mod. 54 J was able to destroy his rifle by "hammer" a 6,5x55 Norma 9,1 gramm Match cartridge into the chamber when there was an unknown problem while reloading it from the magazine. I dont know if he was hurt but the rare rifle got theirs part what ever he did, it was not a good idea the barrel is marked with 6,5R, maybe startet as a 6,5x58R barrel once and that rechambered for the 6,5x55. the 6,5x58R was some kind of a wildcat cartride made by necking down the 8x58RD. |

two interesting early Schultz&Larsen rifle's for sale this 8x60S http://huntershouse.dk/kat408-Rifler/side1965-Schultz-Larsen-M-54.html have allways the teutonic magazine lever of the pre war M 38 and also the early post war prototyp that was destroyed, see the pics above I think this must be another one of the transition rifles between the M 42 and the M 54. here is a Model 56 A in 416 Rigby http://huntershouse.dk/kat408-Rifler/side569-Schultz-Larsen-model-56A.html you wonder why they dont give it iron sights for a dangerous game rifle. the 416 rigby was allways rare chambered before the 1990s when it became realy popular. |
striking similarity between the M 42 and this two early S&L Mauser rifles, its like they were made together |
Thanks for posting Lancaster. very informative and interesting. Would like a S&L in 416 Rigby, hell in any calibre. |
Thanks for sharing Lancaster. To find a Stutzen in 6,5x58R would be a peach. I have 1 or two original 6,5x58R cartridges. They are very very very rare. |

the M 42 world is a very small one there is one of the few rifles in auction just now that was not sporterized by S&L after the war. SN is 1017 but the bolt was mixed up sometimes and have the SN 944. my own sporter have the SN 945 http://www.lauritz.com/da/auktion/dansk-...al-8/i4132319/# . . . |
I bought a 6x42 Zeiss Diatal for the S&L because its still a good scope for many hunting situations and it looks period on this rifle. got a like new scope with the old claw mount parts on the the rail. how many time have we read this question "is it possible to buy claw mount feets for my old german gun?" no, its not but when I look how much modification was necessary to fit the 1970s german claw mount feets into the early 1950s Schultz&Larsen made bases I renounce my faith. the rear feet fits! and in this postion its the right distance between eye and scope too. dont believe it will ever happen again and the front feet also dont fit. not only in height but the claws dont having the right dimensions. no problem it all the claws will be cut of, a little steel block will be welded under the front feet and new claws then milling and filing from this. |
You should use shorter scopes... |
maybe but I believe it was original made for the size of a 6 x scope because any 4 x scope on this mount was to far of the eye. |
I have seen SEM fore mount which helps to assembly short scope so that objective lens is about an inch or even more backwards from mounts lower front part. |

so the last mystery is solved: how to disassemble the M 42 bolt I have got pics from canada coming over denmark showing the stutzen SN 615 bought after seeing the link in this thread above from P&S Guns/ Canada. there is another new owner of a M 42 because of this post here so better be careful! Gunnar, the new owner is a Schultz&Larsen collector, pure danish breed and walk around the world in his life working as a game keeper/professional hunter. one of the pics showing he was brave enough to disassembele the bolt something I dont have done till now because not knowing where to start and fear to break anything. He was kind enough to make "How To Do It" pics and give a short instruction and because this is something you can not find anywhere I will post it here for the benefit of the classic rifle collector community. "1: Bolt # 615, disassemble. 2: remove firing pin indicator from rear, img 2 3: remove the 2 side screws from rear housing, one on each side img 3 4: If bolt can not be un-screwed by hand, set up front part of bolt in vice, use appropriate pliers and protective buffers not to mar the metal, turn rear housing loose, remove from vice and turn the front part from rear the housing and the locking lugs, take care not to loose the spring loaded pointer. img 7 5: Now the firing pin and spring can be removed for cleaning, if this has not been done for a number of years there is likely a build-up of dried grease, which can be cause of miss firing. img 10 6: If need to the safety leaver and the spring loaded pointer can also be removed from rear housing via bolt from front side of rear housing. 7: assemble in reverse 8: Bushing for the back of firing pin spring, which fits inside the threaded front part of bolt, when bolt is screwed together. This bushing go in the rear housing with large diameter first, note the serial no. stamped on it show that parts were made to fit individual bolts. img 24/ img 24-1 10: firing pin and spring back in front part of bolt 11: Needed or not a little molylube on shaft where the locking lugs turn 12: spring loaded pointer into front part of rear housing 13: hand turn front part into rear housing, as you keep locking part and rear housing stationary, not to twist as pointers grap OK img 29 14: Now remember step "8" bushing, this bushing has to fit into the front part of bolt and support the firing pin spring, If the bushing do not slip inside, screw back and fort a little until you feel it has slide inside, there is no need for force. 15: set up in vice and snug the parts together. I think this bolt 615 has newer been disassembled and at no time found I any screws excessively tight. 16: Note the 2 side screws for the rear housing is not alike and go into individual screw holes, this prevent the bolt from come loose. img31 17: finaly screw in the firing pin indicator at the rear." well, it worked for me I was surprised to see this bolt is not made in on piece but a very clever design and ahead of its time. the light and therefore very quick firing pin shows this was made as a target rifle in the beginning. thank you very much for the work |

Schultz & Larsen serial numbers are far from being logical but some sense is this the Mod 42 goes from 100 to 1320 http://www.schultz-larsenrifleclub.dk/model%2042.htm a Mod. 100 DL last year in Namibia http://www.rifleshootermag.com/rifles/featured_rifles_rs_greatdane_200906/ cape buffalo with 7x61 S&H lions with a M 65 in 458 Win Mag http://www.riffeljagt.com/NOMotterup.htm |

more pics showing the 458 Win Mag Schultz&Larsen here in a Model 56 A in all there are 10 rifles known till now made in 458 and thats making them very rare like the Mannlicher Schönauer in 458. a seventy pounder shot 1971 in Kenia by a danish hunter with a Mod 60, SN 6262 |

spring time also in Canada and the stutzen was on the range with handloads made by using 8x56R brass the brass was blowing out with 42 grn N 203B and 125 grn Hornady bullet, on the left the original 8x56R case that gets only a little shoulder from the ch4d die set gunshop basement find, 1960s Norm 7x61 ammo together with the new die set. its allways a pleasure to deal with ch4d, they are cheap or better well-prised and allways willing to help no matter what the problems is. I can say only the best about them! |
Are the M65's, 68's etc the same action (basically) as your military sporting conversion? Nice picture with lions |
all are modifications of the original M 1938 action. from M 54 onwards the action was extended to take 30 06/ magnum cartridges and yes, the pic with the 3 lions is spectacular |

Simpson's LTD has or maybe by now they don't but they had two S&L stuzens in 8x58 r caliber. One had the barrel plugged and the other was good to go. You have to look under miscellanious catagory to find them. Just passing it along. Frank |

another Elephant shot with the very first 458 Win Mag rifle S 501 by the danish hunter Carl Juul Johansen in 1963 the rifle was made as a prototyp by Uffe Schultz Larsen in Otterup and is still in family |

the scope is on the rifle with a little welding it was enough meat to mill new claws from the original feets but there is a little tension because the front base holes standing not perfect in line with the rear base. we dont know why this was done once but probabyl it had an today unknown reason. I will test it next week to see if this affects the rifle when shoting but if so it have to go back and the hole's have to be welded and file again. we will see |

Thanks for sharing Lars. I have always had an ambivalent relation to rifles made here i Denmark. But your thread does bring about a new interest. Being Danish ofcouse my patriotic mind says ofcouse I ought to have just one rifle in our own 8x58R. I do come across a S&L huntingrifle in 8x58R...maybe next time I might just grab it..:-) |

I am realy not responsible for this because it just came to me on its own. if a gun is without plastic, aluminium, weaver rails and white spacer I need to know what it is.;) got some new made 8x58RD Horneber cases today and it was special. just the first case stuck into my die (I was able to rescue it) and when looking whats wrong find out the Lee 45/70 shellholder was out of specs for the 8x58RD and Horneber brass is with 12,80 mm base diameter very large. dont know why but Horneber going maybe up to max. measurments because the swedish rolling block and old Krag's made in the 1890s have oversized chambers whats not uncommon in this time. the brass fits into the S&L chamber but is a little bit to tight to make fun in the sizing die so I turn them down on the lathe to the common 12,70mm base diameter. danish 1928 made military brass 1960s Norma commercial brass new Horneber turned down thats better the CH4D sizing die fire formed 8x56R PRVI brass you can see how the case was blowing out |

the fun is in the little difference who ever had made it once one of the most horrible scope mounts I have ever seen on SN 1199. http://www.hermann-historica-archiv.de/a...;db=kat57_s.txt new at auction http://www.lauritz.com/da/auktion/riffel-schultz-larsen-rplt-42-i-kal-8-x-57/i4306343/# SN 526 was changed into 8x57 IS, new barrel and magazine ( double row mauser style ?) altered probably by S&L in Otterub, stock looks like a homemade job. so its what you call a sporter. was seeing pics of the S&L M 70 rimfire rifle bolt http://www.tirmaillyforum.com/mildot/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=163636&start=15 much simpler but you can see the technical DNA |

had an invitation to denmark for a buck hunt with the S&L and because the clocks going different there I coming back as another person I learned that vegetarianism is good for men, feminism is good for woman and you better burn your classic rifle because it will make the world a better place. dont you believe it I learned(again) that mental and physical fitness is not a question of age and that you never made it into the guard regiment without clean finger nails. first some facts: roe and fallow deer are in the focus there. red deer is only on the Jutland peninsula where wild boar going north slowly from the german boarder. till now wild boar dont reach the danish islands but a hard winter seeing the baltic frozen could change this. the agriculture fear this like the devil fear holy water because of the large pig farms everywhere. if you having wild boars and pigs some bad day the swine fever will come what will be a real disaster. by modern standards hare and pheasant are first class on the danish island, also partridge! maybe elg coming back to Jutland http://cphpost.dk/news/elk-return-to-denmark.html the all time favorite classic 6,5x55 is today maybe the number 3 after 308 Win and 243 Win in use by danish hunter who go most times for roebuck and enjoy a classic small game hunt. was invited for some days to hunt on roebuck and I came in a good society, here with a 12 ga Purdey and a 20 ga Alex Martin. the collector love the unusual buck like this "tusker" on the fist day we were seeing doe but then no more especially no bucks. it was allways cold and windy you were not believing we stand before the St. Johns day it feels like april. so coming home without a buck but I am not disapointed, this is hunting and I had the chance to meet avid hunters and collectors - in a word "gentleman" and so continued to fight against my unknowingness. one highlight was the Model 38 I had in my hands its bought by an american collector and waiting for export into the united states. the rifle hold 2 rounds in the magazine and 1 in the chamber and the magazin have the same style of follower like the model 42. here a pic of another M 38 with a new made stock and barrel in 7x57R SN 371 another interesting gun was this 4 gauge pinfire by Francotte/Liege iirc, would be a good gun for a project because it seems easy to made another short 4 gauge pinfire rifle barrel. for sale for only 900 euro I will sleep abou it. also this 20 -25 mm muzzle loader target rifle the best steel shot can do a farmer in the neighborhood had a 6,5x55 Mauser 98 stutzen by Schultz&larsen, iirc, build in 1949. its the typical style of the early post war years you find also with the M 42 hunting rifles when they work off the war stock. nice rifle but the owner left handed buy a new gun with a lefty action and you can buy such things for 100 euro today. 9 of 10 have to be destroyed before they realize it was a classic. then we visit a collector of danisch krag rifles were I had the first time the opportunity to handle this action. was seeing that the magazine design of the M 38/M 42 based on the danish Krag magazine. nothing comes out of nothing and before the big bang there must have been someone who had pulled the trigger. a pre war long range target/ sniper rifle in 8x58RD the personal hunting rifles in 8x58RD and 6,5x58R Krag he build by himself at home the 6x5x58R is his favorit buck hunting rifle shooting hole in hole got a dummy from him made by using old military brass 8x58RD, 6,5x58R Krag, 6,5x55, 308 Win and 243 Win you see the neck was turned, maybe his chamber have very tight dimensions. before seeing the trophy collection on Valdemar's castle we visit the honour game keeper on this important estate, a retired hunter who had there the chance to realize his thinkings about a good pheasant habitat. they return over 9000 birds a year to the wild from the pheasantry and work for the best possible hunt. a hunter that came around the world, unfortunately had a water -pipe burst in the house so the trophy's standing around exceptional reindeer from greenland after drinking a cup of tea with him we got the was a very nice day http://forums.nitroexpress.com/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=284422&Main=284422#Post284422 |

Thanks for sharing Lancaster. Was it Jørgen you visited?..Anyway we do have some good huntingland here in Dänemark. Ofcouse you had to bring a S&L rifle..:LOL Which gunshops did you visit?. Hope to meet you one day..Deutschland oder Dänemark. |
yes, was Jørgen we were watching the time goes by and drink the so called "brown water". was a very relaxed holiday and a little bit like waiting for the next bus into nirwana! we visiting Arne Holgersen who had allways a nice stockpile of old guns and gun parts. he have also the 4 ga. pinfire fowler and I try every day to put this idea out of my mind. it was a real pleasure to see the small game on Fyn. in other places it dont have any lobby anymore and like a hunter with passion for the small game was saying here " if they would care for the small game like they care about wolves now there will be something possible". its all about agriculture and capitalism and there is no place for patridge, hare and pheasant anymore.its a little wonder they are not completly eradicted. "Hope to meet you one day..Deutschland oder Dänemark. " dont forget I'm not maked it into the Thorvaldsen Museum last time |

Jørgen send me pics from his new aquisition a Model 38 SN 380 in 6,5x58R he was behind this stutzen since 1977 so not only readyness is all but patience is also all for a hunter! the 6,5x58R is a 8x58RD necked down in the 1930s to copy the 6,5x55 in the Krag action the bolt have little differences against the later M 42 |

thanks to the useless internet this rifle became no more known than ever before live on forgotten weapons https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=klgfB78vUuM see the idea of a danish handloader who was making the hard to find 8x58RD case by using 300 Win Mag brass what is a good idea also if it not was my own. knowing I had a bag with 300 win mag brass in the basement somewhere start to looking for. was known to put this brass on a good place once where I can find it easily when in need. well I find such things like 5,6x52R brass but not this stuff. so a case from my case sample collection had to bit the bullet for a test. belt turn down and 12,98mm case body tapered to 12,70 mm over the rim, anealed full length resized cut down and loaded with .310 bullet for functional testing the inventor was writing he use this brass in a swedish rolling block and it works fine. in the schultz&larsen the cartridge was loaded and extracted without any problem. but ... original rim diameter is 14,8mm and this one have 13,4mm so the extractor grip the case but when reaching the ejector its just enough touch to lose it from the bolt. so the case laying in the receiver you have to turn the rifle to the left and it falls out. meaning you dont have to look for your brass after. the 300 Win mag case with its sharp shoulder is allways a challenge. when making a bigger lot I will start with a 11,15x60R and a 9,3x53R die before it get full resizing with the 8x58RD die. |

got funny pics from Langeland, the place I was also hunting last year and for a moment we will look into the brain of of a young roebuck... waiting for a special buck I find the meadow moved this morning for making hay. roedeer was out but not MY buck two higly protected crane familys were out for breakfast and because the hunter is the real and original conservationist ( the greens steal also our own colour to name themself)I had an eye open to protect the chicks. we say here a fox can allways come and he came, first game take with the S&L. this early summer foxes just losing the winter coat looking allways like tramps |

Waidmannsdank its an old one being over his peak in live. the antlers going down now year after year until they will be only long thin spears so it was just the right moment to get him. I am very satisfied with this trophy,it was the right one for bleeding the Schultz & Larsen rifle. |

time for a M 38 family portrait from denkmark SN 380, 382 and 396 396 have rust in the barrel and get a new/ old one by Henrik who was working for Schultz&Larsen once another original M 42 that need sa new barrel too |
Wow, these pictures of older Schultz and Larsen rifles are killing me. I had to open the safe and cuddle a while with my 54j.... I wonder why the model 54j, 60, 65, and 68 are drilled and taped on the right side for a receiver sight yet few, other than dangerous game calibers, come with front sights. Interesting. |
dont know, will ask |
Quote: please show pics with the drilled holes you mean, it seems you dont talk about the drilled and taped holes for the scope bases but other are non- standard. the receiver is extra hard but I think it would be not impossible you have some american made modification. anyway its unclear so we have to take a look inside. M 54 M 65 receiver |
Thanks for posting this information. You catalog picture of the 54j action clearly shows the two holes for a receiver sight. The text states that the receiver is tapped on the side "for Lyman and other American receiver sights". Every rifle that I have seen has these holes barely visible above the stock wood. The stock would have to be cut for a receiver sight to be installed. My 54j was altered, a receiver sight and a front sight installed, post factory work I'm sure. The is fine for me as I prefer a receiver sight for much of my shooting. |
you mean this holes I never realy notice them before but having only the M 42 |
Yes, those holes will fit any receiver sight that works on a 98 mauser. |
lyman sights were not uncommon in those days here on SN 1686 - very early made - target rifle here are th holes on a M54J - “J” for jagt = hunting - cal. 7x61S&H, SN 2327 the rifle 2015 in poland I have got this answer about it "These holes are not on Mod. 65 - 65DL and 68DL" probably the times were changing quickly in the 1960s. scopes and scope mounts were expensive in 1954 more than most people had for a gun budget. its was completly different to our times and the lyman sight was cheap when the scope was expensive. SN 396 and 522 get a new barrel now new made 6,5x58RD reamer |
I stand corrected this Model 60 SN 4078 in 7mm Rem Mag show the holes for the lyman peep sight but the Mod. 65DL and 68DL dont have them anymore |
I just looked at two 65dls for sale on the internet, serial numbers 8459 and 10,218. Both have the receiver sight holes. |
yes, the holes are there mostly hidden by the stock and never notice by european gunowner |

louis give me a hint that Mister Dorleac offer a Model 65 DL in 7x61 S&H http://www.dorleac-dorleac.com/arme/mod-65dl-7x61-sharpe-hart-2/?lang=en and like usual what was in his golden hands come to a new life again the rifle itself is mixed, in my eye's the more interesting one's The “savfty” is from a Mod. 68DL, = No.1. No. 2 Mod. 65 and 65DL. No. 3. Mod 60. The stock is from a Mod. 60, as the photo, with a screw. The white spot is for Mod. 65-65DL and 68DL. mod. 68 DL 6,5x55 and 30 06 in canada and greenland pics coming from Claus in denmark, thank you! |

Thanks lancaster - VERY interesting change on the brass from the older standard 7x61 and the newer 7x61Super brass, having thinner brass, greater capacity. |

Coming along nicely Lancaster! They certainly came in some very good calibres .308 & .358 Norma Magnum another set of under valued cartridges! |

some collector cartridges from the Dansk ammo factory, the joint venture between Norma and Schultz&Larsen the swedish connection an unknown 11x40R shotgun cartridge made by cut down old military 8x58RD surplus brass, probably for smooth boored remington rolling blocks dont know if this was made for garden guns or for the royal greenland trading company to shot snow grouse Colors = Shot siz . Red, = 7, Dark red = 8, Black = 9, White = 10 |

again a very nice M 38 Stutzen, SN 387 for sale http://www.lauritz.com/da/auktion/fuldsk...-kal/i4871012/# caliber is 6,5x55 and because the Mod. 38 was only made in 6,5x58R and 8x58RD its a post war conversion. muzzle looks like a liner was used |
the SN 387 above is not chambered for the 6,5x55 but like the other in 6,5x58RD. got this about the Model 38 and the problem today to determine the correct caliber "Model Number 24 (from 1924) was developed as a rifle for shooting range and competition in caliber .22 – it is the first rifle where every component was manufactured at the factory in Otterup. In 1938, Model 38 was introduced in large calibre, as a hunting rifle, with three cartridges in the column magazine. Like the Model 24, the barrel, action, stock, open sights and tigger was made at the factory in Otterup. Lowest know number : 128 Highest known number : 421 Niels Larsen, from Schultz & Larsen, had participated in the Olympics in paris, 1924 and won a Bronze Medal in the 600 meter free rifle discipline. At this event Niels Larsen noticed a rifleman from Estonia, carrying a rifle , that inspired Niels Larsen to develop a new rifle with 4 lugs design, locking the bolt securely in the action. A good part of the first rifles after model 38, including the prototypes, are marked with the following markings : 6.5 & 6.5R on the barrel. These markings has been a bit of a puzzle and have generated lots of questions over time. Solving the puzzle has been a real challenge and taken a long time, because all the original gunsmiths of Schultz & Larsen are long gone. We believe that the puzzle may have been solved, especially by looking at the material gathered from knowledge of ; Model 38, prototypes and Mauser/Otterup. My dad, and many other have used the Danish Krag Jorgensen Model 89 at the shooting range. These rifles had been fitted with new barrels, manufactured and fitted by Schultz & Larsen in caliber 6.5x58RD It is my believe, that a good part of these barrels, have been marked 6.5 & 6.5R on the barrel, but without actually finishing the barrels before 1945. The rifle bore is always made before the chamber, and in this case, they have been finished in the new 6.5x55mm caliber instead of what was first intended. 6.5x55mm came to Denmark with the return of the Danish Brigade on May 5th. 1945 – they all carried the Swedish Carl Gustav/Husqvarna/Mauser 96 in caliber 6.5x55mm (swedish) In cooperation with his sons Uffe and fritz Schultz Larsen, both Engineers, Niels Larsen developes the model 38, 1938 for hunting. It has a full length stock (carabin) and later a model for the shooting range called model 48, in 1948. These models can be found in the following calibers : 8x58RD. = 8mm = 8x58Krag og 6,5x58RD. RD = R for rand, D for Danish. The bolthandle can be found in a ball and a flat design" so the barrels laying on stock marked 6,5& 6,5R for use in the caliber you need and this confuse today. the same man doing the same work no matter which action was on hand http://www.lauritz.com/da/auktion/mauser-k98-riffel-med-otterup-pibe-kal-6-5x54/i4881205/# Mauser 98 in 6,5x54 post war sporter from Otterup |

had now the Model 38 SN 382 in my hands with the 50 cm barrel surprising short stutzen no doubt made after the Mannlicher Schönauer M 1903 pattern the rifle itself is much heavier because of the very strong build receiver some of the pre war rifles, maybe all, have the stockmaker monogram behind the pistold grip lot of Pecar/Berlin scopes around there the bolt and receiver is different from the later M 42 that there is a hole in the bolt and a pin in the receiver behind the trigger as a additional safety. trigger will only work when the pin fit into the hole in the bolt. to speak clearly there is NOTHING wrong with ch4d die sets, just a side note the cases sized with this die set dont fit completly into the chamber of this rifle. its the very first time that I ever heard about problems with ch4d and the problem is not realy clarified. the bolt can not completly closed, maybe 0,5mm to little. probably a chamber with minimum measurments? dont want to talk bad about ch4d this is the exception of the rule the stock without cap is pleasant especially in bad weather but allways delicate stutzen M 38 SN 373 in 8x58RD bolt was modified with a new bolt sleeve not my cup of tea because I trust in the wing safety but other want it more modern |

Bitten Clauson. Never have heard of her. Had a look on the internet, and other than the book image shown in the images regarding Africa, all that seems to be on the internet is she was a rich Danish industrialist. I assume she hunted in Africa around 1953. |
