Are there many of these rifles around?

It seems a reasonable price with the Rigby connection.
Or are they "just another PH"?

Re: Are there many of these rifles around?

Guess the likes of Rigby & H&H did use other makers actions & 'customise' them so to speak to the individual buyers preference & taste.

If it has an authentic Rigby's mark/address on the barrel then it could be a Rigby....albeit a more PH type (should still have a very good finish, smooth action, perfect feeding etc) rather than the fully engraved & extra fancy wood show ponies like the top end jobs?

I'm a no expert what-so-ever in any field so please correct me if I'm wrong fellas, but isn't that really the only way you can determine such a firearm (apart from records if they're still available of course)?
If they wanted to truly sell with the "Rigby" connection then the seller should supply the consignment note/Rigby journal entry that goes with the rifle to do so.
Apart from that there is nothing wrong with the old PH actions they are solid & dependable!

Complete with H&H traditional Monte Carlo stock. It was the eighties, all sorts of weird things were happening. I have seen some Rigby rifles made in the eighties that looked very un Rigby like with Monte Carlo stocks and I suppose business had to meet the market at the time. Those were the days when I thought the Weatherby with the white diamond inlays was the most beautiful gun ever made.

The way I read that add is the Rigby connection is just the calibre. The rifle is a Parker Hale in 275Rigby/7x57.

Re: Are there many of these rifles around?

It says the shot and regulated model was stocked and finished at Rigby. At least that is how I read it. I would imagine it would say shot and regulated by John Rigby and co on the barrel?

As it said " The shot and regulated model was offered in the 1980s utilising a Parker Hale barrelled action that was stocked and finished at John Rigby & Co."

I wonder if there are marks attesting to that, surely there would be you would think.

Where is Brithunter,he is the PH man.

Re: Are there many of these rifles around?

Had a bit of a look around the internet this morning and found quite a few H&H shot and regulated rifles. A Sako and a Carl Gustav and saw one other Parker Hale Rigby from a 2014 auction but couldn't find a photo on the markings. Seems like an easy way to use your name to turn a few bucks when things were a bit slow. Cannot imagine Rigby doing that now.

Re: Are there many of these rifles around?

Just looking at the images in both of gryphon's links here, Rigby obviously restocked both rifles as well as shot & sighted them. You can see the grip shape & checkering are typical of Rigby, not Parker Hale. That was just part of the business back then for those companies.

Was USAF & based in the UK early '80's, used to go into London and go see the wares at Rigby, H & H, and John Roberts & Son.
As far as I remember Rigby at that time was nothing but a tiny store front with little stock on hand while most, if not all, of their new "Rigby branded" rifles and guns were finished for them by Roberts. Could be wrong from old age memory of course......

Sorry have not been on any shooting forums for a while. Almost all my reference material is boxed up ready for the move when it eventually happens.

Anyway the P-H rifles usually done by Ribgy's have this engraved or roll marked on the barrel. The stock is often finer finished with much finer checkering and maybe slightly reshaped. However they are often done, or the few that I examined several years ago were, on SILE (Italy) stocks which were the standard supplier of stocks for the later Parker-Hale rifles.

Sile also supplied BSA with stocks for the CF2 range.
