Griffin and Howe Schmidt and Habermann

Interesting new offering from Hallowell & Co.

http://hallowellco.com/griffin__howe____schmidt%20+%20Habermaann.html

Is the Schmidt and Habermann falling block action well regarded? This appears to be one of those early G&H offerings with a Bavarian style stock. The wood to metal fit seems a little sloppy where the forend meets the front of the action. Serial number of 303 would place it around the mid to late 20's, but I think I have seen at least one other single shot G&H rifle with this same serial number. I believe it's because their early serial numbering system allowed for duplicate serial numbers. Also, I'm not sure the rifle hasn't been reblued. It does not look like rust bluing to me, although it may be the photos.

Rust bluing is the first thing I thought of when looking over the pictures - very nicely polished before and carded between rusting coats.
The forend is a little 'proud' of the action, but I wouldn't call it sloppy.
Thanks for the link. Nice rifle.

What a lovely piece you found there mckinney!
In 250 Savage as well, a real 'hotshot' when it was made for sure.
Beautiful engraving to top it off as well!
Marvellous find matey

Sincere congratulations on your pick, McKinney; she is a most classic German rifle of the best pedigree, in a really interesting classic calibre; I would love finding a similar one but finding a needle in a haystack might be easier! I hope she will shot as well as she is beautiful and I wish you good hunting with her.

Re: Griffin and Howe Schmidt and Habermann

Thanks for the responses guys. Just to be clear, I haven't bought the rifle although I am thinking about it. I would like to have it but that would be out of step with the ultra cautious mindset I have adopted since our election.
