600 on Used Guns

There is a W.J .Jeffery 600 Nitro on usedguns ,it states it is New and for 10 K ???? seems [too] cheap to me for what it is ,considering the price of a Soroka Farquharson ,surprised it hasn't gone already at that price ,if I had a spare 10 k lying about...……………………...

That’s a Gibbs style action.
Wasn’t there a Farquharson Rifle Co. for a time in Australia back in the ‘80s-‘90s?
Perhaps one of their actions.

Whomever typed that descriptor is an idiot - in my opinion.

There is no such thing as a 1/2 hex barrel. I've never seen one, but I have seen a lot of octagonal/round barrels.

Re: 600 on Used Guns

looks like its octagon up to the sling swivel ,then round ,I don't know why you would want that on an English Style rifle ,although in Kirtons book there is a 577 with a octagonal barrel [what the customer wanted ]

Daryl, you are correct, it's a real pet hate of mine, I think many Australians are too dumb to know the difference between a hexagon and an octagon, sadly...
I was only speaking to a mate of mine about this very rifle yesterday, he thinks it's because they are too lazy to say "octagonal" and "hex" is easier and faster. Happens here all the time with Winchester lever action rifles, "it's got a hex barrel".

Whilst the 600 is a very nice looking rifle, and the guy that built it is entitled to have it made however he wants, it's his money, but an American style barrel an an English action just doesn't do it for me.

Re: 600 on Used Guns

Had a guy call my 14 bore rifle's barrel a "hex" barrel. I said - count the f--king flats. He did and said "8, that's a big HEX barrel too".

Re: 600 on Used Guns

I’m curious about the Jef moniker being applied here..

And any first impressions were the same as those above - why oh why would you do that barrel on this style of gun!?
