Just picked up this nice little Swinburn's Patent rifle. Calibre is 500/450 #2 Musket, as confirmed by a chamber cast. External has a bit of a "speckled hen" look to it. Internally the barrel is excellent, and should be a good shooter. Just waiting on cases and dies now to be able to bring the old girl back to life, it has not been fired in over 40 years. [image][/image] A close-up of the action reveals some light engraving towards the bottom of the action on the left hand side. We believe it says - "James W Honier" on the top line and "Melbourne" on the second line. After quite a bit of looking, I can't find much about that person at all. [image][/image] A photo of the front sight, not sure, but I'd say it's not original equipment! [image][/image] [image][/image] |

Cool rifle - WEIRD front sight dovetailing. I've never seen that before. Due to the dovetail's shape, I'd just about lay odds it is original - however, it is pretty weird shape in the blade and it's 'finish' is off. I wish they would not put those rear sights so close to the eye - harder to see the older I get. |

The front sight was surely a windage adjustable sight originally. Can’t quite make out the name James something Melbourne. I too recently got a Swinburn, retailed by Frederick T. Baker. Pretty much the same pattern as yours. |

Shame we can't see the photos! Sounds like a good one to use for Light BP in the BGR comp? |

Should be able to see then now, but probably need to learn to resize them! |
