Martini - Army Navy Actions

Long time, no see... Been a long time since I logged on, but am hoping you don't hold it against me...

I've recently run across a Martini, Army/Navy action, based on the Francotte design that I'm pretty interested in. It's a small frame Martini, originally chambered in .310 but sleeved to .22 Hornet. How well respected are these actions (if at all)? I've been "jonesing" for a small caliber Martini for a long time.

Any issues with the Army/Navy receiver, or other considerations? I've never owned a Martini before...

The rifle is really nice, bore/rifling sharp.

Thoughts? Thanks in advance...

BTW, storm raging outside, high winds, tons of snow, good fun!!!

Army/Navy is not the maker. They are the retailer.

Post some pictures of gun and especially the markings and proofs. A Makers mark may be visible.

Most Army/Navy stuff is better grade.

Army Navy Records are available for research. http://www.gla.ac.uk/media/media_67061_en.pdf

I own a small frame Martini, and love it. Make certain the firing pin has been bushed, as the .310 used Berdan primers and the pin is a much larger diameter. If your going to hand load for it, use a primer with a hard cup (CCI.41) as the higher pressure loads, the cup tend to flow into the firing pin hole making it difficult to open the action. Mine is chambered for the .218 Mashburn Bee, the 22 hornet may not be a problem for this.

Re: Martini - Army Navy Actions

Thanks everyone. I'll try to get some pics this week. Since it was sleeved in the '70s by a custom gunmaker in the USA, I'm not sure how much of the original markings are left. The action was engraved, the wood refinished, etc... I'll see what I can find out.

Again, thank you so much.

Dave

Of course we won't hold it against you. When a prodigal son returns he deserves a feast!

Good luck with the .22 Hornet Martini. I have a .222R Martini-Cadet, which I am ashamed to say I have not used as much as it deserves. Need to get it scoped by some sympathetic method. But would be a fun rifle to play with.

John:
I designed a rear mount for the cadet, that works really well. I don't use photobucket so I can't post pictures, sorry,.

Mail it to me, Bob and I'll upload it to my account.
Here's one method of scope attachment for a Martini Cadet.
The rear hole is over the chamber, front hole on the rear sight band of the CZ527 barrel. The band has a blank, drilled and tapped for a 10/32 screw. A Williams (Marlin, I think) scope base with proper hole spacing was used(or we drilled a new hole - can't remember.
