Did anybody see the nice Fraser single shot .303 in Julia's auction today? A beauty. http://jamesdjulia.com/item/2244-386/ It found a new home in Virginia. Curl |

Nice rifle, congrats Roscoe! |

You will have to let us know how that carbonate of soda works on the bore! Great gun for sure. Wish mine was close to as nice. |

She is a lovely addition to the stable, Roscoe. The bolted safety is most unusual, and a bonus addition. It is sad the telescope sight is still not with her. Please let us know how she shoots - the last Fraser single shot .303 I shot (one made a little later than this one) yielded the best group I have ever shot with iron sights at 100 yards. 1 1/2" for six shots. |

Roscoe - you KNOW I NEED to see that rifle (and your others) in person! |

What a thing of beauty! Congratulations! |

That is lovely. |

I'm confused why it is been sent to Virginia and not to me..? :P Great pick up, good sir! |

I...I just want to hug that beauty! |

Mein Kapitan, way too nice. I think you need to clean out your gun safe to make room. I have a brand new safe completely empty at the moment if you need to make some space. |

Curl, someone sent a quote to me yesterday.."Anything worth doing is worth overdoing, moderation is for cowards" best |

Quote: An update: Mike Rowe has applied his boundless talent to the Fraser's "scopeless" bases. It's not an original Fraser scope, but a Lyman Alaskan is a good, vintage scope that doesn't overpower a nice stalking rifle such as this. The project is complete, but I won't have it in hand until the end of July. Meanwhile, here is a photo that Mike sent me: Once I get this rifle back in hand I will give a generous report to this forum. Curl |

Roscoe - I am glad you resurrected this thread, it gave me an opportunity to look again at such a beautiful rifle On second appraisal, the engraving on the TRIGGER! is the extreme example of a rifle made to the highest standards of the British gunmaking industry I hope you have fun in shooting it Tony |

That Fraser is just amazing. Absolutely fantastic. I've envious as hell. |

Beautiful rifle Roscoe! I have always loved single shot rifles. And the Fraser rifles in particular. Ross Seyfried used to write some fine articles about them. I remember one in particular about a 500 BP Express. It was called a Long Range, Large Game rifle, or something to that effect. I wore the pages out of the magazine reading that article! |

It is just a stunning rifle and takes my breath away. Truly craftmanship at its finest. Cheers |

Hey Curl, these images need replacing! I hope you kept them offline? |

Few people have the opportunity to dissect a Fraser single shot rifle. I have. After I got the rifle in hand I disassembled it to clean and lubricate all the parts - standard maintenance for any machine. I documented my visit inside. Let me share my photos. Here's an amazing tour of the gold plated innards of this superb rifle: Perhaps this sheds some light on why many collectors consider the Fraser to be the best single shot rifle ever made. Curl |

They don't come any better than that, do they? |

More technical documentation of this wonderful rifle. This rifle was fitted with the "Coles Patent Foresight Protector", which is not a very common accessory. I seem to be well-blessed with these things, as my Army & Navy Farquharson is similarly equipped. When I had Mike Rowe make scope mounts to fit the original Fraser bases, Mike was interested to know the details of the Coles Foresight Protector. He asked if he could disassemble, examine, and photograph it. I agreed. Here are his photos of this interesting accessory: We do well to document these rare treasures. Curl |

WOW - gold plated guts. Oh Boy-o-Boy. |

That's an exceptional rifle and thank you Roscoe for taking the time to photograph all of the internal parts as well. |

Gold-washed lockwork *Swoon* Super nice front sight details! |

Exceptionally nice Single shot. I must admit that I find the Scottish makers have a certain individuality which I find very appealing. Beautiful tasteful engraving. You can certainly see where Ruger got many of there ideas from as the No.1 uses many parts which are similar in design and most notable the front mounted mainspring. Matt. |

Quote: The last line of the quote sums up this Forum - we're are here to record & preserve these 'rare treasures' because that is exactly what they are! And finally to Mike who has worked his magic & got this fabulous old lady another set of 'glasses' again - true they might not be the exact ones she started out with, but she can certainly see one hell of a lot better now! Well done gents, it really is a privilege for us to be included! Keep buying a bigger safe Capt, more gems out there waiting to be discovered! |
