H&R Handi Rifle

I just took one in trade - .444 Marlin, black stainless steel, compost stock, unfired in the box.

Any opinions on this? Has anyone shot one?

Re: H&R Handi Rifle

A friend of mine got one in 500 S&W and wanted something done with the ill fitting stock. (fitting for him not to the B/A)

There is way too much wood and they are not comfortable to hold onto

And with a slimming of the forestock as well it became a more user friendly rifle to hold onto and shoot. A great little rifle now and loads of fun.

VG - good idea, but on my synthetic stock it would be a smidgen difficult. I enquired of J.D. Jones (SSK Industries) if the caliber could be increased, but met with a resounding "NO".

Re: H&R Handi Rifle

A Triple 4 (.444) is a great ctg., even with the Marlin 38" twist rate. Mine did very well with 265gr. jacketed as well as 300gr. jacketed and cast.

However, please measure the rate of twist poprivit and see if it is in the realm of 18" to 24". If so, it will be even better for use with 300 or heavier bullets.

The H&R Handi rifle should easily make 2,200fps (same as Marlins) and perhaps up to 2,500fps with the 300gr. bullets depending on how the rifle handles pressures up to 50,00psi or a bit over. Considering that rifle, (if the EXACT SAME ACTION) is chambered in 60,000 to 65,000PSI rounds.

Re: H&R Handi Rifle

I rebarreled one to 500NE 3 1/4in to use with light loads, but used full loads & recoil was like being in a Car crash !!!

So they can take a bit.... a bit more than me, my arm went numb in a shoot & shaking for a while after LoL !
