Martini System 12 Gauge what Rifle Caliber is possible?!

Hello ,
i am so helpless ..but of course begin ..so i have the idea the martini Henry Police gun System 12Gauge to use for an Big game Rifle.. so what for an Caliber is Usefull in this system!?
Please dont look so close on my english but i am from germany and do my best !please answer for my question!

My preference would be for a fully-rifled 12-bore, and shoot big conicals at modest velocity! ....but then, I'm a little strange that way!
Most of the big NE cartridges are relatively low pressure, but still much higher than a shotshell. Nevertheless, I could recommend the .577 x 2 3/4 Light Nitro, as I know it will fit (just) through the MH action. Most of the long NEs won't go 'around the corner' and into the chamber.
The .577/.450 Martini Henry cartridge was designed to go 'round the corner', and did have an express loading for big game a century ago. Today it could be loaded with a light nitro charge and jacketed .458 bullets to make a potent hunting cartridge. Brass is available. If using an original barrel, check the groove diameter though as it might not be .458.
Do you already have the police gun? If not, you might be better off with a standard Martini Henry or Martini Enfield rather than the shotgun variation, because those actions have more metal behind the hinge-pin than the GP or police-gun.

The Police Gun is a Greener pattern Martini Style action and not a Martini Henry.
The used full stock police guns when found are usually found in very poor condition. Look for a Greener Martini EG or GP shot gun or as Marrakai suggest a Martini Henry.
If you go with the Greener gun get one with out the split action for the take down barrel. The Greener also come with a safety, the Martini Henry does not have a safety. Also do not get a Greener GP that c-clips holding the pins in.
I have been told that I am now the proud new owner of a 577 2 3/4 NE. Haven't seen the gun yet but it is supposed to be on a Greener action.
I have a Martini Henry MKIV that was rechambered to .375 2 1/2 Flanged NE. This is the humpback military action. Shoots good, but haven't killed anything with it yet.
Another useful caliber in this gun is the Westley Richards Musket No.2 also known as the .450 Musket No. 2 or incorrectly the 500/.450 Musket No. 2.
A bit passe, but a useful caliber is the American 45/70.

Wow I wondered how long I have had that 577 2-3/4"
I have never shot it, dislike the gun is is PITA to work on.
Disassembly is difficult.
Still haven't worked out how trim the brass reliably. can't find a case trimmer to fit. I think this is the biggest issue for me.

Thanks for digging that out DD.
Pity the rifle doesn't inspire, after going to the effort.
I trim the cases down from 3-inch to 2 3/4 with the thin cut-off wheel of a Dremel, then keep them within spec with a jeweler's file!
The latter is hardly ever necessary though...

Ive got a tiny circular saw with a 2" blade. I bought it at Harbor Freight for maybe $20. I found a guy on ebay who 3D prints jigs for shortening brass. I dont know all the jigs he makes but Id bet hed make one for 3 to 2 3/4

Those Harbor Freight cutoff saws are used by a bunch of guys on a small bore forum I frequent. They like them. A V cradle of steel or wood would work just fine as a holder, wouldn't it?

Yeah I assume a "V" would be fine. I think the "printed" ones extend past the cut off point (to add support for the case). They are needed most for cases with a rim to keep everything level. Without something to keep everything level you get a cut an angled cut

Depends on how you cut/make your V block. If made of wood, you can make it right, so the cut is square.

I have the Harbor freight chops saw. Never cared for it that well. Lacks the precision I seek. But I have it.
I have been thinking about getting a piece of tubing and running my reamer in it and making a cutting guide.
Stick the brass in the guide, cut off the brass that sticks out.
May do the same for my 577/450.
