Meopta Meosight III experience?

G'Day Fella's,

I'm thinking of fitting one of my rifles, with a small Red Dot/Reflex sight.
There seems to be no shortage of options these days (Trijicon, Leupold, J Point etc) but I have been very impressed with what Meopta produce, hence this enquiry!

Have any of you blokes used or own one of the Meosight III red dot/reflex sights, and what were your impressions/experiences?
FYI, here is a link to what they look like and details, etc;

I too have been looking into the reflex sighting system. If you compare those of the same size I think you will find they are identical. I'm beginning to think they are made by one company and sold to the various vendors that affix their own label to them. maybe the electronics are different, that I'm not sure of,

Re: Meopta Meosight III experience?

I have been trying out sights of this type(not a MeoSight III) on a combination gun I use for predator hunting. It is fast when using the shot gun on running targets. For hunting bobcats and coyote size (and larger) beasties out to say 50-75 yards it probably works ok (if one can ever get away from not being able to see the exact aiming point with precision when the trigger breaks). My eyes do not seem to see the nice round dots that other people report seeing while using these sights. What I see is blob made up of many radiating red coloured spines. In practice putting the blob behind the shoulder of the cat or coyote provides all the accuracy one really needs in most cases. It is just not the crisp in focus sight picture one is used to with conventional optics. I want to try the Delta Point to see if that is any better for my eyes.

One of the web sites that reviews gun gear commented that when using the SCAR 17S semi-auto as a test bed that the recoil cycle caused the dot on the MeoSight III to turn off and then back on with each shot. The author suggested this was due to the slide out battery tray on the Meosight having loose enough tolerances to allow easy replacement of the battery. I guess there are people out there with reflexes fast enough to be hampered by the dot blinking off between shots. I certainly am not one of those, but I would worry that this is an unusual wear point and that the wear might be exacerbated by the considerable recoil of a real BIG game rifle.

That looks like the type of sight the fellows are putting on their IPSC "race" guns. The one I looked through, looked great, for close, fast shooting.

Are you shooting while wearing glasses? I tried looking through mine with glasses and got that same type of dot, removed the glasses and a nice round dot.

I did not think to try without glasses. Thank you for the advice.

Re: Meopta Meosight III experience?

Also look at the Aimpoint H1Micro. Advantage of the Aimpoint is up to 50,000hrs battery life, is parallax free to infinity. Once zeroed the dot can be anywhere in the field of view and if it is on target you are on target. That is if you eye is not precisely placed to have dot in the centre of the scope it does not mater.

The problem I have experienced with the M111 type is that I have to go hunting with eye placement to find the reticle/dot. This weakness may well have been overcome as it is years since I tried one of these holographic sights.

Re: Meopta Meosight III experience?

About this sight both me and my father used it on two different rifle a semi-auto ruger 44 mag and a semi auto 30-06, and it don't give us any trouble.
We use the same sight before mounted on a rifle and after mounted on the other.
In this kind of this sight take a look of the Docter Sight III:
http://www.docter-germany.de/en/products/prod/prod/doctersight-iii.html
Or take a look of a tubular red dot as Aimpoint H1Micro or H30.
As dracb said this kind of sight are for close range shooting if you have to shoot more longer than 70-80 yards on small animals, in my opinion take a low power scope
