Went shooting some old loads I found here for the Manton. 5 shots fired at 50m offhand. 1 went a little high. The four best are 6x7" group. The load are 60 grain Blue Dot pushing a 990grain ball. The gun group best with 63grain BLue Dot.(I am out of these) Aiming was 6 o`clock between black & white. Next time I`ll bring a brass rod to adjust the rear sight to point-of-aim. I feel this gun is more than ready to buff. I must chronograph the final load. Do I really need a .577express?... |

It will likely do the job if you can put them in the right place. Nice rifle. Do you use backer rod for a filler? |

Fillers are 9gauge feltwads |

That should work, but would also increase pressure over backer rod. Backer rod might also change regulation of that load, pro or anti. I would certainly be willing to try it, if available. Foam window sealing roads. 3/4" maybe 1" preferred I suspect. |

Nice rifle. Looking forward to seeing it shoot on target. Keeping note of what you are doing. |

All I can say is WOW! Lucky bugger RM! Would have been a fair old wallop to the shoulder, but what a hoot! Good enough regulation for what you need in a pinch, but I reckon you could still do better yet |

990 grain ball? I mean I know I have a “little” 8 at .840 but my round balls are only 880 |

Stunning rifle though. Very pretty, I want a 10 for my next double. |

There is something very impressive about that picture. |

Quote: AK, I think it’s a matter of semantics, RM’s usage to mean “conical ball” ammo as opposed to “round ball”. Daryl: Based on what I’ve read from Cal Pappas the Blue Dot loads need something like 100lbs wad pressure on the powder so I’m guessing backer rod would not work well. - Mike |

The good thing about this 10bore is that its .793cal. I have 3 bullet molds from 900grain to 1100grain. It isn't an 8bore and it weighs 14.5ibs "only". I have often thought it would be nice with an 8bore but this 10drammer Manton does it all just fine. |

Would be interesting to see some standing or sitting bench targets, forend held as-if shooting offhand, of course. Point taken & well understood, Mike. |
