Hey guys, Need to know for a breech loading black powder 10 bore (rifled, using a .800 roundball so it’s actually bigger than a 10) what a good powder charge would be. It’s time to cut the chamber in it. EDIT: never mind, solved. It’s going to be bored to take 165-175gr FFg. |

Glad you got it sorted, Ash. |

Afro408 did. It’s a sort of Fergusson rifle, hence the need for a chamber. I need to source a place for .800 round ball mould. Anyone know where? Also, what do you think of this for the lock choice? I’m not trying to style it after any particular gun or era. Also need to pick a butt plate. https://www.trackofthewolf.com/Categories/PartDetail.aspx/724/1/LOCK-GA-FR |

Ash what you are referring to is called a patented breach. |

Ash - Tanner moulds in the UK will make any size you want. The name of the outfit has changed, since Jeff passed, but the lad is running the business. Moulds are CNC turned (I think) and are made of brass. They fit standard handles. I have 5 sets of these mould blocks & use the pliers-type wire strippers with little cut-outs for trimming the sprues - cut in part way and twist the ball - off comes the sprue and leaves the ball virtually round (with some practice). https://www.ballmoulds.com/ |

Tanner molds are a little quirky to use but once you get used to them they work great. (and their cheap). |

+2 for the Tanner ball moulds......can’t go wrong. I have two different diameter 12bore moulds for brass case rifles. - Mike |
