Very interesting Ripp, thank you; so a healthy mountain lion population is likely to impact really negatively on the big game stock in an area, owing to the number of elks, mule deer, antelope and mouflon sheep taken by this surveyed individual.

In my area, elk, deer and pronghorn lose a large portion of their population to predators.. lions, coyotes, bobcats, bears and an occasional wolf will pass through.. just to name a few.. there are also wolverine, eagles, etc.. Everyone is hungry.. no uncommon that 80% plus of the newborn die the first few months..

In areas where wolves are more prevalent, they have been seen eating the young as it is being birthed by the mother..

Healthy game population, healthy predator population!

I am surprised that badgers are so high on the menu. I always thought that badgers were great fighters and it would seem that there would be easier prey. Of course, the lion is much bigger than a badger and size does matter.

Funny this is mentioned.. was telling my kids about this last night.. mainly because we saw a mtn lion down by one of our pastures late fall.. early morning he was headed towards the timbered ridge..Surprise, surprise,..that pasture has more than its fair share of badgers.. guess now I know why he was down there.. or possibly why he was.. the pivot is near, so lots of deer in that area as well..
