Grizzly hunting in Wyoming & Idaho: any developments?
|
|
Ripp Circa one year ago the Wyoming Game and Fish Department approved a limited season for grizzly bear hunting and planned for 22 licenses; similarly Idaho planned for one license. The hunt, which was due to start in September 2018, was cancelled at the last minute because of a legal procedure filed by antis. Was there any notable development over the past year? Is this hunt re-scheduled for September 2019? Louis

Yup, and that's not a very large grizzly either.
A big one can be a rear attention-getter.

Incredibly powerful animals. Imagine the bite strength alone, needed to hold on while pulling that buff up.

Actually a 30-06 is a good bear rifle if you load a good bear bullet. In Alaska when I was a kid, the 30-06 was the #1 most popular grizzly caliber sold up there and used by more of the locals than any other with the 375H&H being in a close 2nd place. But nearly everyone used 220 grain Round Nose bullets on Grizzlies from their 30-06s.
If you can shoot well, the 30-06 is good.
I like my "big guns" and I carry "heavier-hitters" around the grizzlies as a rule, but I feel OK with my 30-06 and my 8X57 when loaded with the correct ammo.

Totally agree with that.. isn't a bear alive that can't be killed with an '06 and as you state using the right bullet..

Yep. The Canadian Rangers did alright with their 303's and now 308's.
