Lyman No 35 receiver sight

Not sure if this the correct place to post but I have a Lyman No 35 Mauser 98 receiver sight for sale $225 AUS $. It is in what I would call average condition and probably would clean up a little. Still can't get the hang of posting pictures here but happy to email some through should anyone be interested. It is located in Adelaide South Australia and I will send anywhere in the world with the postage being covered by the buyer.

Cheers Steve

They are priced, and seem to be selling, for almost double that here in the US

That much and more I would say. I think one would be hard pressed to find a nice one for less than 700 USD (1000 AUD) and I have never seen a well used one for sale, other than one that came to me on a rifle.

Probably should have asked for more...lol, but to me it was a fair price for a small item that I can not use. And to blaspheme in the Mauser forum, it get me closer to another Mannlicher

Re: Lyman No 35 receiver sight

Well geez... thanks for making us feel like d!cks, mckinney!

Did a search and couldn't find anything like that!

Condition of this one was listed as "average, would clean up a little" and I paid the asking without a hint of haggle.

According to google, the listed price for a Lyman 35 of $10 in 1939 is equivalent to about $210 today.
Sure, there's the scarcity factor, but they probly made thousands of 'em and that price is for brand new condition, so the asking was in the ball park imho.

Anyway, thanks again for the opportunity to add one of these period-correct sights to my 9.3x62 commercial Mauser project, Steve.
Still have a couple of ducks to line up, but as they say, watch this space!

No doubt Marrakai will be able to return a favour one day. He is a good and resourceful guy.

Best is two members mutually satisfied using the NE forums. Find stuff on here never found in all of the USA!

Re: Lyman No 35 receiver sight

Sorry about that guys:)

Great that you were able to get the deal done. We pay stupid prices for this stuff in the US unless it's a deal between collectors.

Nick Stroebel's "Old Gunsights and Rifle Scopes" (2008 edition) lists the Lyman 35 at $350-750. He states about the 35:

"Early sights were supplied in a white box with white labeling. Inside is red tissue wrapping paper, a printed sheet with installation and shooting instructions, and all mounting hardware. Later sights were supplied in a black cardboard box with orange and white labeling. Inside were white waxed wrapping paper, a printed sheet of installation and shooting instructions, and all mounting hardware. No. 35 sights are not normally marked other than with the Lyman trademark."

Would love to have one of those early ones new in the box!

I wish I had paid more attention to sights in general in the past. Wonderful area of collecting that I was completely oblivious to.

By that I meant Marrakai often is buying and selling stuff. Another mutually agreed beneficial for both transaction.

My guess if CharlesHunter had asked for those "US prices", for something "never available in the USA", it would still be listed for several years for sale.

When it comes to buy and sell transactions. I once was hired by a winery. It was previously owned by three guys. They sold 51% to a wealthy family. Another corporate guy, Australia's richest man at the time, after the fact said he would have "paid twice the amount". Yeah sure. The new shareholder majority owner said in return "You named a price, and we paid every cent you asked". A win win.

Btw I though it was a rule that "classified adverts" are not discussion threads?

PS the price here is an actual real market price.
