Brno ZKK Sights

I was finally able to snag an earlier (1966) Brno ZKK600 with the peep sight in the rear bridge (I'm in the U.S. so these do not come up all that often for sale). This guy has the rounder more continental looking stock, rather than the more square rosewood tipped version. Sadly, the front and rear (barrel mounted) sight are missing. I'm thinking that a CZ 550 sight blade insert may fit in the ramp. Has anyone tried this before and if so, do you have any idea what sight height I should look to buy to make it functional with the peep? I guess the CZ sight inserts are marked with numbers on the base corresponding with a certain height, but I'm not sure if Brno did this or not.

Also, I don't imagine I'm going to be able to find a Brno original ZKK rear sight for the gun, but are there any rear sights out there that are close in appearance? Maybe something generic, or perhaps NECG?

the CZ550 blades should do the trick for the front sight, the hardest will be getting an original rear sight. You never know you might be able to scrounge up an old shot out barrel for either a ZKK600 or 601. The ZKK's were pretty common in Canada, not so in the US.
Daryl here in this forum might be able to help locate one in that regard.
Winchester here in Oz stocks some parts - have to go thru a gunsmith, but whether they export may be another issue altogether

If you can't get the back sight I would just fit a blanking plate for the rear dovetail slot & just use the front blade & rear peep - very fast to use & easy to adjust.
Another option would be to get a similar express type rear sight milled to fit.
Best of luck mate, they are a wonderful rifle - the peep alone is a work of art alone!
Search amongst the forum here for ZKK's - there is quite a few blokes with them here - Tilleyman I think is one.

Re: Brno ZKK Sights

CZ USA was making those rear peep sights for the 550, so that might be an option.

Some of the rear sight blanks on this sight are fairly close to the ZKK sights, however unless I'm measuring incorrectly, the dovetail spread on the rear sight base is 1/2" and most I find are 3/8".

Re: Brno ZKK Sights

Can anyone with a ZKK600 with the peep in the rear bridge measure the height of their front sight please? I'm just not sure which height to buy to work with the rear peep. Thank you for any help you can offer...

Re: Brno ZKK Sights

I have a ZKK 601 with the rear peep sight. The front sight height, measured from the bottom of the dovetail to the top of the sight, is .252". Its marked as a number 8.

A couple of things to bear in mind:
i. Its likely that the height of the front sight varies depending on the caliber
ii. The rear peep sight is adjustable for both elevation and windage.

Thank you very much Hunter! Yes, I had those thoughts, but I hoped to just get it in the ballpark...

Re: Brno ZKK Sights

I'm not sure if its kosher to paste a link to another forum, but One Day gives a pretty good reference on ZKK/CZ front sight heights.
