can the .350 Rigby be loaded for the 310grn 400/350rnd?

I was just thinking about the .350rigby magnum this morning, I am wondering if the .350rigby magnum can be loaded to the .400/350 310grn level.

I have loaded .400/350grn to the 225grn 350no.2 loads, but not the other way around, should work. but just asking the experts.

Re: can the .350 Rigby be loaded for the 310grn 400/350rnd?

I have miss placed my Woodleigh reloading manual so can not give a definite answer. However as the 350 mag came along after and is the more powerful of the 2 I can not see why not. Remember a350 Rigby mag can be loaded to equal the 358 Norma Mag with no problems.

Found the Woody manual. It does not list the 310 projectile for the 350Rigby Mag. However other loads for the two are similar velocities.

AR2213sc or similar would be a good choice of powder to start with.

Do you have any loading data for a hotter 350 magnum load?

I am taking mine to SA next month and have been working up some loads. I've loaded the 250gr. Speer into homemade cases from .375 H&H in front of 74 grains of H-4831 for 2550 fps and am getting 1 in. groups at 100 yds. I am going to stick with this for my load right now as it is giving me what I need. Also loaded 73 grains of IMR-7828 that gave me 2470 fps and good accuracy. BTW, I loaded the H-4831 load into 40 Stewart cases for the hunt. Both of these loads are a little hotter than the Woodleigh data but everything looks ok. I have a copy of the Woodleigh data page but it is hard to read and would not upload well. When I have more time I might work up something with the 250gr. Nosler....maybe the 225 load would be worth playing with as well. I would be really interested in some loads that approach the 358 Norma but would like to hear from someone who has done it.

No. I have some for my 338/358RUM. However if you want I can work some out.

Woodleigh manual points out that the 350Rigby holds 2 grains more water than the 358Norma and advise that the starting loads for a 358 Norma should be good as starting points for the 350 Rigby. I was looking at making a 350 Rigby until I decided to go with the 338/358RUM and worked out some loads to start with.

My method of coming up with a starting load is to find similar cartridges and then make allowances for the difference in case capacity and shape. Bit of guestimation involved but the 350 Rigby is fairly straight forward -unlike the 338/358RUM. If you know somebody with Quickload have them work out some suggested starting loads.

I hope I can let you know how it does on Sable especially.
I'll try to post a pic or two. Its so cumbersome. You would think with the technology we have now, you would just be able to cut and paste. But noooooooooo

In case it might be of interest to someone....there is a pretty good thread on of all places, the Nosler Forum. If you go there and search "350 Rigby you should find it. Someone worked up I think some Quick Load loads. Thats where I got the H-4831 data.

Yeah its a pain. But all that "technology" doesn't happen magically. Someone has to do it, and it is all done for free. And yes the forums are free ...

But don't worry, NE will soon be doing a fund raising to help pay for the running costs, and maybe some improvements. Don't worry, when the improvements and upgrades are done, there will no doubt be more things to complain about.

Easy NitroX,
I speak about the photo upload sites. Since Photobucket went south, I did start a new account over at IMGUR. Its just a shame we have to have a third party involved when it seems like some kind of cut and paste system should work. But, I assure you, I am not technologically minded. I can learn to use it, but it holds little interest. And your right, folks will always find something to complain about.
