Enfield 1917

I know it is not a Mauser, but understand they can be made in to beautiful rifles both big and small. Sarco has actions that "appear" to be original. Joshua, the Winchesters & Remington's are the best to convert to virtually anything you want, the Eddystone's were supposedly overly heat treated but I know of one here that is used in BGRC competitions that is converted to a 500 Jeffery - the owner well lets just say he leaves the rest of us for dead in his wake!

Lol, I have heard both sides of it. I would definitely have the action inspected first. If these are not worth the time or money, my apologies in advance.

The P14 and P17 actions need a significant amount of work to make them suitable for a custom rifle.
The availability of BRNO 602s and CZ 550 magnum actions makes them obsolete unless you just have to have one. A 500 Jeffrey will fit a Mauser 98 and would make a much more desirable and valuable rifle.

Super strong and long.have three.building another in 416rigby if my gunsmith finds the time.still plan on 505 Gibbs got my eye an already sportered one locally for 400 but buying another mannlicher has slowed that project .

All u need is a hack saw and a bench belt sander or find someone with a mill.you could restore one if there not dill purpose ones.i restored my 303 p14 that way.the model 30 Remington is the commercial sporterized p17 and they go by for 500 or less complete.

The P14/M17 is the great granddaddy of the Rem 700. Love to get my hands on a Model 30.

I would bring a couple of those actions into Aust if the process wasn't such a pain.

The Sarco 1917 Enfiels look like they have a notch cut out of the receiver ring. They may be from drill rifles which were rendered inert. A 1917, 1914 Enfield and a Remingto 30 or 30S can be made into great magnum rifles. When I was in Mumbai last year I dropped by a gun store where they had a .375 H&H build on a 1914 Enfield. Very nice.

Here in the states if u watch cabalas online gun library the model thitys pop up often along with p17/14 spotters.the nice part of the 30s is everything is done but grinding the clip guide and a barrel.also they don't seem to have a collector following.pacnor can make a drop in short chamber barrel in most of the odd calibers.except 318.go to Walther for that.but I want down the the prickley rabbit trail on my 416 trying to be cheap.

Thanks for the heads up. I have an 8X68s built on a Winchester M17Action and a 35RUM on a Rem M17. Good luck with 416 Rigby build.

This is my remodeled P-14 Enfield, metal work by the late Harry Creighton, stock by the late Hal Hartley. Caliber: my wildcat .416/.300 Winchester Magnum. My cartridge predated the .416 Taylor by several years, but, predating the internet also, it never got any publicity.

I would most heartily agree that 1917s can make wonderful sporting rifles. Here is mine made from a Remington 30s by Bud Morrow, Sheridan Gun Shop. In 300 H&H.
