10.75x68 Reduced Loads

I am not sure whether it was Daryl or Von Gruff or both who seeded the idea of resizing some 44 Mag jacketted bullets for some cheap plinking in my 10.75x68. Thank you to both of you because it worked a treat. I resized some Nosler 240 gr bullets and loaded them over Trail Boss starting at 17 grs and worked up to 20grs. Unfortunately I left my chrono at home so the velocity will have to wait for another time.

The rounds fed reasonably well from the magazine although I suspect that large, exposed hollow point might have been a little deformed as it engaged the ramp. Even so, it didn't appear to affect the accuracy since my first group at 55 yds over open sights measured 34 mm (1.4 in). The next group printed well at 112yds but was a lot larger than it should be because of my unfamiliarity with double set triggers. Once set, that first trigger is very, very light.

The rifle was a delight to shoot. So now I have to build my biceps by resizing a bunch of those Noslers for the next range outing remembering, of course, to take the chrono!! That said, I anticipate the velocity will be between 1500 and 1600 f/s.

Glad it worked for you!
Resizing bullets for odd calibres is a quick and easy way to obtain bullets.

A re-sized 300gr. .430" Hornady would make a very good game bullet for deer - large and small as well as for hogs.

From my .444, they held together amazingly well - at up to 2,200fps.

Sizing them for your 10.75, should toughen them up a bit as seems to happen, rather than the reverse.

The Speer plated 300gr. might also work - as well as the 270gr. Gold Dot Speer.

Note - the little screw between the triggers is for their adjustment. You can easily make the front trigger a bit stiffer if needed.

Lancaster,

I was told the rifle is a 'trade' rifle, whatever that means. I was led to believe that the action might be a scavenged WW I rifle fitted with a Krupp barrel.
Here are a couple of pictures of the markings.

trade rifle means it was build in Suhl/Zella Mehlis for some Dealer/gunmaker who in the end sold the rifle to someone. such rifles came in the "white" meaning don't having the makers name visible but were intended to get the dealer's name engraved what most times dont happen.

stock design, engraving and the octogonal to round barrel( I suspect, please showing the whole rifle) is so typical I can smell it on the screen it came from Suhl and yes they had a lot of surplus Mauser 98 actions left over from WW 1 production.

Thank you, Lancaster. Yes the barrel is octagonal into round. Here are a couple of further pictures.
