August Schuler .500 "jumbo".

I've been searching for one for sometime now with no luck, it was my understanding that these were fairly plentiful compared to its Engliah made counterpart.

Does anybody have an original flyer with the information on these rifles including variants, build specs and that may include production numbers?

Thank you gentlemen.

dont believe you can talk about "variants", they were build one by one on special order

Re: August Schuler .500 "jumbo".

The three "Jumbos" I have held have all been pretty much to the pattern of the colored print above.
It is my understanding that about 110 .500 Schulers (the Jumbo) were made in total. I bet that a few others made guns for the .500 as well and it seems that W.J. Jeffery made their iconic .500 Jeffery in response to customers' demands for a bolt gun with the power of the larger nitro double rifles so made their .500s to use the already in production German cartridge - the .500 Schuler - although there are slight differences in the cartridges.

Here is mine (my son's actually).

There were some good photos of one of these and photos of the magazine, internals etc but have lost them ,i know its a big ask, but would be good if some enterprising gunsmith could run off a dozen replicas or so of these rifles for sale

Sorry for the ignorance, but this Aguste Schuler is the same of the 6,5x68 and 8x68 cartridges?

Yes, but in a way only:
The Schüler or Schueler (German Umlaut, not "Schuler")Company was founded by August Schüler in 1835. From 1913 on grandson Richard Schüler was the owner. Address Roschstr. 13, Suhl.
The 6.5x68 and 8x68 cartridges are often erroneously labeled "Schüler" in America, but were not Schüler cartridges. They were developed by RWS, the ammo company, the 8x68 in 1939, the 6.5x68 in 1940.
The Schülers, sons Friedrich and Oskar, grandson Richard, developed several other cartridges:
11.2x60 aka .440 Schüler, about 1905
11.2x72 aka .444 Schüler aka 11.2 mm Krieghoff, about 1907
11.2x72R, rimmed version of above
12.7x70 Schüler aka .500 Jeffery, about 1926
.404 Schüler Magnum, a very obscure number slightly larger than a .416 Rigby, about 1939. Only one rifle known. In the 1990s Suhl gunmaker Ziegenhahn tried to revive this .404 Magnum, but without success.

Re: August Schuler .500 "jumbo".

As everyone knows, the .500 Jeffery started out as the 12,7x70 Schüler. All known cartridges were made in germany by Dornheim („Gecado“), see Taylor:"African Rifles and Cartridges".
This was the state of things until Mr. Little mixed things up when Kynamco started production. Instead of working with the long established and registered CIP dimensions of the 12.7x70 Schüler, he decided to reinvent the wheel. Apparently he worked from an obscure drawing of a cartridge from the Kynoch archives (the original Kynoch company had never sold such a cartridge!), designed chambering dimensions around it and registered the whole shebang as the „proper dimensions“for the .500 Jeffery. Now Kynoch had put an much shallower shoulder angle (for ease of manufacture?) on their cartridge drawing. (remember, British chambering/ cartridge dimensions were purposely sloppy in pre-war times, see f.i. the military .303 rifles). The dire results are:
1) Thereare now two sets of different dimensions for the .500 Schüler and the .500 Jeffery.
2) Kynamco`s cartridges will work ok in an original or Schüler chamber (with a lttle bit of fireforming the shoulder area), but original or Schüler cartridges will not go into Mr. Little`s chambers.

Re: August Schuler .500 "jumbo".

I would call this the economy model "Jumbo", built for me by Lon Paul on my ZKK 602 action, with a highly modified factory stock. Caliber .500 Jeffrey.
