WTB 1871 Mauser bolt (or parts for one)

A friend of mine on another forum posted this.

I recently came into a very nice 1871 Mauser, NOT a 71/84. It is in very nice shape with one caveat that is a biggie! I don't have a bolt. I am hoping someone here either has an extra or knows where one is available. Even bolt parts would help. Thank you for your time.

He is in the US and I would be very happy to facilitate a communication with him if there is a bolt to be had.

Re: WTB 1871 Mauser bolt (or parts for one)

There were sent to me some time ago (sry I cannot remember who send them to me but I did post them on this forum. I think they were both 1884 versions with the .446" groove diameter.
if so, they may have the bolt with 2 locking lugs, that the Model 71 of 1876 didn't have.

The 20" bl. carbine I have, is marked Mod.71 on the left side, then 1876 on the right side of the action. It is a single shot, single locking lug. Also, the action is octagonal as-is the forward section of the barrel, over the chamber.

The ctg. pictured with this rifle below, is the .450 Alaskan, the wildcat ctg. I re-chambered my rifle to, in order to obtain good brass and to use a .457" bullet that fit the oversized groove diameters in these rifles.

Yes it is, wish I owned it.

Mine has a bit of recoil, 5 1/2 pounds, with 506gr. bullets.

Well thank you both for the compliment, I just picked up another 71 this one in 16 gau., not a take down though. Have it cleaned up and ready to re-assemble. --- John303.
