Hi All, I recently had the luck to acquire a lovely rifle in very good original condition. What makes it unusual (to me at least?) is the sight setup. There is a tangent type rear sight which runs in dovetail grooves along the barrel with numbered positions. There is also a cutout where the whole sight can be removed. There is also a dovetail on the receiver top which at first one would think is for a scope, but the bolt handle is not designed for scope use, so could this have been for a peep sight or some such? (I've since seen pictures of Mauser raised scope rings with holes to see the iron sights through them as well as a diopter sight set-up which work on these dovetails) The engraved writing consists of: PATRONE 22 LONG RIFLE Serial no is: 123143 Proof marks are crowns over B U & G Mauser Werke AG Oberndorf An. And letters that seem to be DRP DRGM. Any further info would be appreciated! Pictures below: |

Isn't that an ES350B? http://forums.nitroexpress.com/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=129744&an=0&page=5 |

The rifle in this thread is a Mauser MS350B, not an ES350B. The latter is a single shot rifle, while the MS is the much rarer repeater. The MS350B is very hard to come by in unaltered condition, a very rare piece. I have 3 of them, but they all have an extra hole here or there, or non-original sights, etc. These are great rifles. Congratulations on your acquisition! |

Thanx All! I am rapidly learning more & more about my lucky find. It seems that finding original Mauser see through scope mounts is going to be even more luck than I can hope for? My youngster wanted to go on a "walk & stalk" after Minah birds with it. That was even before I had a clue of its true value. I guess he'll be stuck with the Remington pump action for a while yet.... |

Looks as though it has also served time in the South African Army. The "U" with the broad arrow stamped in the wood behind the guard is there ownership mark I believe. |

Hello Stephen, as I collect Mauser .22 lr rifles, I have some of the rifle information collected in reports together with information and photos. If you are interested, I can send you some of the "reports" (maybe the wrong name...). best regards Rolf |
