brno zg 47

I came across one of these rifles last weekend, and I am wondering how scarce they are. The best thing on the one I saw was the original QD scope mount and rings with the Czech scope on top. I know they were offered in a handful of calibres but being European they probably did not come over here by the boat load. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

Re: brno zg 47

I found a little more info on the ZG 47. It was probably introduced in 1947 and stayed in production until the mid 60's when the ZKK models were released. It came standard with a double set trigger but a single stage type with a built-in single set trigger was also available. Choice of calibres included .270, 7x57, 7x64, .30-06, 8x57, 8x64S, 9.3x62, and 10.75x68. In 1964 the best grade was priced at $139.50. From what I remember, Czechoslovakia was not occupied until 1968 so I'm hoping under the free market when the ZG 47 was made, some made it over here (Canada).

Re: brno zg 47

I have and have owned several ZG 47 Brno rifles. If you check ahead of the reciever ring on the barrel you will find two numbers. This is the date of manuf. These rifles came with a single trigger non set.The 21 H had double set triggers and the ZKK had a single set trigger. The rifles that I own are 7x57, 30-06. I have owned 7x64 and 9.3x62. The rifle came with a very plain stock no cheek piece, high comb and no cheek piece and nice wood high comb and cheek piece. The scope on the rails is made by ziess. It is one of the few set ups that stay lined up when you remove and return it. I have collected Brno rifles for years and own several model 21's also. I do not like the new brno rifles and would not own one. The older ZKK's are OK.

Re: brno zg 47

I've noticed that there is a greater supply of Brno rifles in Eastern Canada than here in B.C. I've asked an armourer out here how often he comes across these rifles and his answer was not very encouraging, especially after I told him I was looking for a 9.3 x 62. If the model with the double set triggers is the 21H, then I have one chambered in 7 x 57. I would not trade it for anything.

Re: brno zg 47

I have 3 sons and they all shoot Brno rifles in 7x57. One rifle is a model 21 carbine, a model 21 rifle and a model 22 full stock carbine. They also made a full stock rifle. I still see a few of these guns at the gun shows. I have only saw one with the original scope and rail base for sale and the price was high. I owned a 9.3x62 and it kicked harder than my 375 ZKK 602 so I sold it. I also had a problem getting brass and bullets. I still wish I had kept it.

Re: brno zg 47

did the 9.3 weigh as much as the 7x57? I have a 602 in 375 as well and it weighs far more than the 7x57.

Re: brno zg 47

The 9.3x62 was the same weight as my ZG47 30-06. That is why it kicked so bad. The stock had no comb. If I had it to do all over I would of had a stock built for the gun. I shot some bears withit and it was a real stopper.

Re: brno zg 47

I just picked up a ZG 47 in 30-06. It weighs 7 lbs 8 oz and the trigger has been worked to break at about 3 lbs. It took a year but I finally found one. It wasn't in my caliber of choice but I'm happy none the less.

Adam,

I moved your ZG-47 thread over here to the new Mauser forum from the rifle forum.
