6.5x55SE Mauser Sporter by DORLEAC

Made for a friend and loyal customer, this 6.5x55SE, built on an Original Mauser square bridge action produced circa 1930 has been engraved by Florent Viale.
The action has been fully blue printed and deeply modified while retaining the mechanical elegance of pre-war Oberndorf productions.
The rifle benefits of two safeties, the traditional flag one for the unscoped rifle and a Purdey type sliding button to be used with the glass on.
The 25" match grade Lothar-Walther barrel has been meticulously profiled and chambered for the superb 6,5 Swede cartridge.
I know that some of you will not appreciate such a big scope, but it is the choice of the customer who has opted for a Swarovski Z8i 1,7-13,3x42 that we fitted on claw mount retaining the locking integrated into the rear flat top.
Designed as a very classic stalking rifle, it nonetheless delivers remarkable accuracy as shown by the test target shot with Norma Bondstrike Extreme 143 gr.
I must confess that I prefer the rifle in the white than fully completed, but it's a personal taste, the pleasure of the gunsmith that sees the birth of his project. This is why I did not resist the pleasure of publishing some pictures of the rifle in this naked state !

Regards to all.

That is so sweet. Yes I agree too, in the white suits the stock so well. I do normally love blued rifles but that looks beautiful. Congratulations on a beautiful piece!

Hello Mr. DORLEAC,

SUPERB!!!! Nothing to change for my taste!! Perhaps the scope is a little too big but I could live with that!
At first, in the in the white pictures, the action looked to me as an Intermediate 7x57 one but, finally, it seems to be a 98 standard one.
Congratulations to you and your loyal customer.

Very nice would be an understatement as always Mr D!
Fantastic work to get such magnificent wood & metal together like that; all topped with beautiful engraving to really set it all off.
That fore end tip certainly has some racy lines!
Yes the scope is larger than what I would liked too, but hey if that's what the customer wants then its his money that pays your bills!
Certainly can shoot by the way too, if that was a 200m group then it would frighten the pants off a lot of 6.5mm Creedmoor shooters!
Thankyou for sharing

Superb rifle, to say the least, my dear Joël; the acantus scroll engraving - although IMHO not forcibly required on a working rifle, is also absolutely beautiful. I wish good hunting to the lucky owner!

Again the absolute classic Dorleac rifle. One day people will look back and recognise such rifles, and wish they were still made. A long time in the future I hope!

And IMO the best 6.5 mm cartridge chambering. Results some modern pretenders can't match even over a hundred years later. Used in war, on countless elgs, algs and moose. Still used in some military sniper rifles such as the CZ. And perfectly suitable for a smaller medium bore sporting rifle.

The .243 and .25 were rightfully very popular in Australia where most game is not large nor require a heavy rifle. I have always considered the 6.5x55 a step up in effectiveness. And if the silly Victorian bureaucrats had not made the .270 the minimum for red stag and sambar, the 6.5x55 with a 160 gr RNSP would make an effective sambar killer.
