H. Mahillon 416 Rigby

I just took delivery of this H. Mahillon 416.
A few years ago, I sold a Mahillon 416 Rigby that was a pre war gun built on an original square bridge magnum Mauser action.
I really liked that rifle but it did have some little things that I wish it hadn’t. The forend was quite thick, the bolt knob rested right up against the wood and it honestly belted me much harder than I liked. The stocking looked and felt proper but that one for some reason really packed a wollop!
Still, I kinda wished I had held onto it.

A year or so ago I came across another Mahillon, this one a post war rifle built on an FN action in 9.3X62. I really like that rifle - shoots great and has many high end features although it is a bit rough.

To my surprise, this most recent rifle, the second 416 I’ve had, is just two serial numbers away from the 9.3 and also built on a standard length FN action. A perfect Safari pair!
The work done to fit the 416 cartridges is quite slick and very well executed. Holds four down and one in the spout too!
Just mounting and swinging this rifle, it’s easy to see why Selby liked his 416 so much!

Will post pics soon

Still working on it...

Does anyone here have info on the H. Mahillon numbering? Would like to know when this rifle was made. My guess is early to mid ‘50s.

Still no dice with PB or Flickr
I did post photos on the NitroExpress Facebook page so if someone would copy them here, that would be great!

Huvius,

Are you able to post pics of both the 9.3 and the 416 side by side for us as a comparison.

Thanks

Had Ben send me pictures and got them up via IMGUR.
Looks like a nice score....just needs a proper S.W. Silver's orange pad.

Thanks for posting them Mike!

The pad is original, although a bit worse for wear. Great rifle though - two numbers away from my 9.3X62!

Cool you got the images up. Farcebok is an increasing problem. They now require the new "look" and it blows up for me all the time, and requires the browser to be shutdown and restarted. So I now run a different browser for it and shut it down regularly and restart it when it freezes.

Was about to go and look for your rifle images.

This rifle is not from Mahillon, but it looks like it was also built with a FN Mauser action.

By the way, it has been offered for months. I was already interested in it, but I cannot buy it from abroad via this portal. I wanted to talk about the price, but the seller did not respond to my request.

Re: H. Mahillon 416 Rigby

Sorry GV
There appears to be no makers markings on the receiver ring - this must be a commercial Mauser instead of a remodelled military action?
Just reread your previous post - "but it looks like it was also built with a FN Mauser action."
Makes sense now.......silly me!

Where I last worked, PC meant protective custody - where we kept the "skinners" (skin beef maggots).
