Stogos 11.2 x 72 Schuler

What can the board share with me about Stogos? Sure does remind me of a .500 Schuler a friend owned. Both single stack magazines, rebated rims. The .500 my friend owned had a spring that helped managed the cartridges as they came up out of the mag box, no such devise on this rifle. The owner put the bolt somewhere safe....he is just not sure where that might be.

Get a bolt for it as soon as possible.
This is a rifle that just says lets go hunting - NOW!

Re: Stogos 11.2 x 72 Schuler

STOGOS = Stotz & Goessel, Suhl, was founded by Johann Stotz and Leopold Goessel in 1923. Business: Gunmaking, import (fom Belgium), export, wholesale of hunting-, target arms, pistols, revolvers, ammunition, hunting equipment, handloading stuff, edged weapons and so on. 1927 Goessel left the partnership. Shop only sold to a Wilhelm Knopf in 1930, end of Stogos. The rifle was most likely made by Schüler for Stogos. Take the rifle apart and watch for the proof- and other marks under the barrel. Richard Schüler, who ran the A. Schüler OHG company then, made many bolt action rifles for others. Some time ago I saw a .404 rifle, marked on the barrel by Jeffery and with London proofmarks, underside of barrel marked "A. Schüler" and Suhl proofmarks.
BTW, if the original bolt can not be found, any 98 standard length bolt with the 8x57/.30-06 12 mm bolt face recess will do.

I have a STOGOs 9x57 with Wilhelm Kelber barrel on Oberndorf Commercial Mauser Action with all matching Serial Numbers. Thing weighs around six pounds and gives a good belt with the metal Buttplate.

Schüler built the cartridge retaining springs only into their 12.7x70 aka .500 Schueler rifles, which have true single stack magazines to hold the outsized girth cartridges. The 11.2x72 Schueler case is slimmer, 13.6 instead of 15.73 mm base diameter. If you look closely at the magazine follower in your 2nd photo, the 11.2x72 cartridges are slightly staggered. So the common integral Mauser feed lips are sufficient to hold the cartridges inside the magazine.

Re: Stogos 11.2 x 72 Schuler

Gentlemen,

if somebody is interested I can support loading data for the caliber 11,2x72 Schüler.
I used the 400grs Woodleigh softpoint and the FMJ and SPRN in 400grs from Degol Company, cases from Bertram.

The rifle was a modern 11,2x72 Schüler buildt by Mr. Harald Wolf in Belgium.

best regards
Rolf
