Re: FN/Browning Mauser 98 catalog

Thanks for this, very interesting. I didn't know this rifle was ever offered in .404 or 10.75x68. It must be very rare in those calibers. The rarest caliber in the Browning Safari I think is .284 Winchester. The .222 Rem Mag is also rare if I remember correctly. These are very nice rifles. I have told the story of midnight shooting of Browning Safaris in .375 and .458 with an eccentric gentleman I knew in my 20's, so won't repeat it, but very fond memories.

We've all done silly things like selling something that we didn't need at the time - this one certainly fits that category!
Beautiful rifle there Lancaster - whoever buy it is not going to be disappointed!

Re: FN/Browning Mauser 98 catalog

Itīs funny notice how similar SAKO high Power and bespoke Browning are. As you see SAKOīs action isnīt any real magnum but just normal one opened to accept .375 H&H

Re: FN/Browning Mauser 98 catalog

Lancaster,
That's an interesting rifle but do not see it branded Browning. Maybe they were branded differently for the European market. All I have ever seen in USA marked Browning Arms Co., Morgan, UT and Montreal,PQ or some such. Would you enlighten us on Browning arms marketed for the European market. BTW, lovely rifle.

Probably the same as with the B25 shotguns. Those made for the US and Canadian market were branded as Browning while those made for the rest of the world market were branded FN.

in europe this guns were marked under the "FN" label

"Fabrique Nationale d'Herstal (French for: National Factory of Herstal) – self identified as FN Herstal and often referred to as Fabrique Nationale or simply FN – is a leading firearms manufacturer located in Herstal, Belgium, and is owned by the holding company Herstal Group which is owned by the regional government of Wallonia.[1] It is currently the largest exporter of military small arms in Europe.[2]

FN is a subsidiary of the Belgian Herstal Group, which also owns U.S. Repeating Arms Company (Winchester) and Browning Arms Company.[1] FN America is the American subsidiary of FN Herstal; FN America was formed by the merger of FN's previous two American subsidiaries: FN Manufacturing and FNH USA.[3] FN Manufacturing, located in Columbia, South Carolina, was the manufacturing branch of FN Herstal in the United States, producing firearms such as the M249 and M240 machine guns and the M16 rifle, among others.[3] FNH USA, located in McLean, Virginia, was the sales and marketing branch of FN Herstal in the United States.[3] After the merger, the facilities in South Carolina and Virginia remained, but with integrated management."
